Rat #18 for the season, #2 for August

This is another one that came out in broad daylight to munch on the chicken scratch I put out for the birds and rabbits. It was sitting about 15 yards away eating until I opened the window to take the shot. Then it ran across the alley to some bushes for cover, but it left me an easy heart shot from the side.

~40 yards heart shot DRT, no pass through.

That's a ping pong ball for scale.

Cigar was a Montecristo Platinum which is becoming one of my favorites.

@backstop, forty yard kill shots on rats is something you can be proud of because it isn't easy. Rats are furtive, wary and skittish creatures it can be difficult to get DRT kill shots especially as the distance increases. Good shooting.

Yes indeed! I almost tried for a head shot, but thought better of it. I find that heart shots on small pests work best for me. More DRT kills, less blood and when done well there is little to no movement after the shot. Of course, others may differ on that opinion but it works well for me in my situation. (smile)

Fortunately this one sat perfectly still while I lined up the shot and I did my part with trigger control and follow through. (grin)

Are those your "buy when can" pellets? If so, priceless!

edit: My bad, was the pranas. Still, priceless.

I have yet to vet the Piranhas for pesting, but I am hopeful as they are the only 10.5 grain pellets available locally. I do have a magazine loaded with them, but haven't tested them at 10 meters yet. I won't try them for pesting until I am confident that they can hit my aim accurately and consistently. That may take some time and tuning and I may never get there with them. But I am going to try! (smile)

Thanks for the reply!
