Range finders

I’ve seen them used on the practice range. Not sure of an official rule on that one though.

thats a good question , and to pass along ,,most believe there range finders are accurate try to measure out some different distances then see if you R F is on spec ,nothing worse than getting bad info we go to great lenghths to prepare every little aspect from washing weighing sorting ,pellets and getting our scopes right on but we hardly ever give a second thought to a major part of our sucsess or failure .buy making sure our range finders are giving the correct #s ,i to need to practice what i preach i never put this much thought to it until now good luck PAT

I let shooters use range finders before, and during the match. The only reason you don't see them at FT matches is because it's against the rules for a sanctioned match. I only hold one sanctioned match a year. The remaining matches run what ya brung under 22fpe.

Same here. In general, most range finders will not be quite as accurate as ranging with a good high power/$$$ scope. That is especially true at the closer targets. But range finders now cost quite a bit less than those scopes. Laser range finders are convenient, but when I'm trying to establish an accurate distance, I get out the tape measure.

In answer to the OP's original question:
Are laser rangefinders allowed to be used during practice session of a f.t. match?

Whether laser range finders are allowed to be used at the range is up to the match director. For a strictly AAFTA match, they are not allowed to be used in any Division while on the course.

I have never seen any match director forbid the use of tape measures at the sight in range, but for some reason, a few won't allow laser range finders.
