Rain and Air Rifles

Need some advice. In live in the rainy northwest about 50 miles from the ocean. We get lots of rain. I am a bit leary of venturing outside to do my dairy farm pesting permissions when it's raining at all, much less raining hard. I have a Taipan Veteran, an Edgun Layla, and an FX Dreamline tactical. Any one of those prone to dammage from significant rain? I am not in the mud and dirt, just rain. Or are they all prone to dammage and malfunction when in the rain?

I used to hunt with powder burners in any weather and not give it a second thought. However they don't have a million O-rings, valves, continuous high pressurem, etc.

Sounds like it should be called, the city that never stop rainy. I'm sure there are sunny days. Rain is just water. Like all water, it will make your guns rusted. So make sure to clean all water off it and spray with some lubes to prevent rust..the o rings are inside the gun. Unless you are dipping your gun into the puddles, water shouldn't go inside where the o rings are.

Kayaker...Your suggestion just might be the ticket. I have looked at that rifle before but went to a higher priced rifle. Now, does that mean I'll have to get rid of one of my other rifles. lol The others will get lots of use but when it rains bring out the Fral. I am looking at the 'marine' version. Wonder what makes it silver? Is it really some grade of polished stainless?

I am relieved to hear from others that theirs get lots of rain use and if wiped and oiled there seems to be no problems. Gee! Another reason to get another rifle.

I see it's adjustable. Can you really get the FPS down far enough that I am not going to put holes in the metal barns? Only somebody who has played with it would know.

Jim81 My 22cal at low on the dial justs lobs them in with the jsb's 18s .I wouldn't be afraid to use it . What distance are you shooting ? Not sure if they are stainless maybe someone that has one will chime in . But you can replace the shroud from P.A. pretty cheap but your still going to wipe it down & oil it . Mine is the completely black one . I have a contractor here right know but will test it out today to see what happens if I get a chance. Is it heavy gal. or the light weight tin ? darell

We got caught in a rain storm at the Crosman field target shoot one year. I poured water out of the stock on my HW 100 every time it was my turn and my buddy was using my Daystate Panther. The HW did not get affected at all but the Daystate electronics board showed no numbers. We went back to the room and took the gun stocks off and let them dry good and oiled them down. The electronics dried out and worked well after that. I shot a match in KY one year with a USFT rifle and got caught in a bad storm. The gun performed a lot better than me and was fine afterward. PCP rifles are pretty hardy but they all will leak eventually, rain or not.

I baby my rifles. If it's going to rain when I'm out pesting or hunting, I bring the Benji NP2 and use it. When I return home I remove the stock and dry everything with a towel and blow dryer before wiping it down with Ballistol.

If you are going to be shooting in damp conditions, I would remove the wood stock and seal the inside. Too much moisture and the wood can swell and then crack when drying.

edit: I also like the bikini scope caps for shooting in the rain because they keep the scope lens dry. I remove the plastic lens from them and replace with glass, much clearer.

I'll have to 2nd the advise about scoring a Kral Puncher Breaker!
I loved mine so much that I grabbed a second one. They rock!

I have both styles of the synthetic stocked version:
The PB silent-marine [silver] and the PB silent [black]
Honestly, w/ the silver, I think the only thing different is the finish.
It's almost a fine bead blasted / anodized appearance.

Both of mine are new [the Mk2 versions]
The only odd difference that I noticed..
The shroud on the black version is a bit longer than the silver one.
Huh.. Interesting..
I remove the shrouds though. The barrel ends are threaded 1/2-20
so a suppressor threads right onto them.
I let the bbl 'float' but add rubber grommets in the bbl bands..
That way, the bbls still have 360* support, and it works great!

🙂👍

[Edit] Here's a closer shot of the finish on the Marine / Silver:
[You'll see what I mean w/ the grommets & suppressor too]
