Raccoon needs to be gone

I’ve put up with this bandit for long enough. This morning I discovered he left the lid up on my feeder and tilted the other feeder. So he has to go to coon heaven.

I do have a question for those who may know. I bought a driveway sensor from harbor freight. I tried to get it set up to sense a coon (I used a yellow color plastic bag on a stick) but it would not go off. The motion detector would not pick it up. How are you guys setting up your driveway sensors? Thanks for any help!

I could be wrong, but I think that type of sensor actually picks up changes in temperature, like a very basic thermal sensor. Most of them even say not to point them at air conditioning units and swimming pools, because of the generated/reflected infrared radiation. This means that an inanimate object like your yellow bag will not set off the detector, if it is the same temperature as the surrounding area. Try filling your bag with 100 degree water, and I bet it will detect it then.

Go to your local Home Depot, Lowes etc. Buy a roll of flashing. Wrap the bottom of the tree approximately 4ft above the ground with the flashing. You may need to use two pieces and overlap. The coons should not be able to get their grubby little claws into the flashing and therefore they cannot climb the tree. Coons are not like squirrels, they cannot jump from tree to tree. I have used this technique to keep coons from working over my deer feeders. It works. PS - I prefer black flashing. Have fun.

easiest way to get rid of raccoons and bears........

remove the food they are after.

yes, I hate the fact that the birds Ive drawn to the house are gone (really miss the songs they sing) but I dont miss having Yogi and his mom destroy my feeders, be on my deck raiding the suet and spreading trash all over my yard.

Either coon proof the feeders or take them down

You can eat 'coon. Grew up on the things. Never knew until after I got married. Came home with my bride. Mom served a squirrel gumbo. Mmmmmmm GoooooooD, but wait? This bone is just too big to be from a squirrel! Mom and Dad just laughed. Then they told me I had been eating racoons all my life. Not a big stretch from a squirrel, really. Tasty too.

So if it were me, I'd harvest those racoons whenever the population got to be a problem and keep the feeders for the squirrels, birds and other edibles.

Last evening my girlfriends dog came and kept wanting me to let her out. I got up and walked to the back deck door and looked on the feeder. Huge coon. Dog looked at me like that’s what I was trying to show you. I yelled at the coon and it ran off.

Well this evening about 45 mins before sunset I looked out and saw a coon on the feeder. Dreamline Lite / 22 cal JSB 15.1 gr. ~18 yds. She turned sideways and I put one in her brain. She fell straight down. She rode the proverbial bicycle for 15 or so seconds then her hind feet went slowly to the ground. Night, night.
