Quit Screwing Around: Lets see those SPRINGER GROUPS

I know a fair amount of Gamo haters in the forums I frequant, and I felt like I could fall into that group too - until I found the pellet it loves...

Gamo Hornet Maxxim .22

5 shots @ 25

Did some long distance shooting at 50 meters with my Hw35 from 1969, not so easy done but the gun is capable of the task, just me that need a lot more of practise... Pellet was the Jsb 10.34, the difference in the targets is me shooting with different holdovers, the shots to the left is because i canted the rifle, got one flyer to the right wich was my fault.

Six shots from my Walther LGU 177 at 45 yards, one of the most underrated air guns out there.

I did some internal work on the spring housing and some extensive work on the trigger which can not be adjusted to my liking whether it be the factory original, the aftermarket "tuning trigger," or the "Yankee" trigger mod show on Hector's blog.

The gun is probably the best shooting springer I have and on any given day may even kick ass on my Daystate Wolverine R.

I bought a Diana 350 magnum .177 and this is not an easy gun to shoot targets with, have testing different way to hold and rest it and different way to pull the trigger, she likes to be shot from a bag resting near the triggerguard with my arm under on the table and gently squeeeeeze the trigger until release, favorite pellet so far is Jsb 10.34gr, distance is 25 meters only, first target is 5 shots in the group a bit high and one flyer, second is 2 shots high, adjusted the scope but to much so i hit low, adjusted again and got 10 shots centered, next target are 5 shots in a tight group

I've hesitated to post on this due to my allergy to citing one group as indicative of a gun's accuracy, preferring to take an average of at least 3 consecutive groups (and preferably more). Nevertheless, I think this one group is print-worthy in this forum thread, even though it technically is not a springer group. The rifle is a .177 Theoben Evolution gas-ram gun.

Since I've never found a recoiling piston gun to shoot to the same point-of-impact from a any kind of rest as from any kind of unrested position, I do all my piston-gun shooting from the seated field-target position, with the fore-end of the rifle resting across my fore-arm. That's how this 55 yard, five-shot group that measured .45" center-to-center was achieved. NO, I cannot shoot groups this impressive with any regularity... even with the most accurate PCPs.

I've since sold this rifle and kept my .22 Evolution that shoots just as well in a better caliber.

This is not really a group I guess, but it's about as good as I can shoot. The rifle is my scoped 300S, 25 yards with JSB 7.33's. The rifle is pretty fresh, the springs have 600ish rounds on them now and the breech seal, buffer and piston ring probably have 150ish. It was shot tonight, it was 7:00 when I finished.

Starting with the bull and working out, the bull is .235", .494", .730 and .987". The first row is sighters. It's fun to cherry pick my groups and post them but I feel this target is a better representation of the rifle/shooters capabilities. In my case the rifle is way better than the monkey behind it.

I'm at a crossroads. I love the accuracy & simplicity of a good spring gun but for distances & penetration a PCP can't be beat. You never said rules of scopes or no scopes. I'll do 10 shot groups tomorrow at first light with the open sighted R1.22 & FTT 5.54 & RWS 48 .177 on 6x w/ 10.5 Crosmans. Both rifles tuned by John Thomas & benched off of porch railing. I need a blackened traced quarter to even see at 32 yrds for open sighted R1.

I've had nothing but wind and I can't get the best out of the rifle by holding off with mylar tape blowing in the wind. Anyway, I'm in desperate need of trading for more of it's favorite food. FTT 5.54's. At 32yrds this morning, covered by porch but target in the rain, I put 5 in a direct stringing pattern 2" high to low. That's open sights folks so, hey, I can hardly see and I need special markers to have a repeatable POA to give a decent POI group. Anyone looking to trade heavy JSB's for .22 FTT's in 5.54 or even RWS Superdomes? You know what's weird; although physics explains it. The jSB 18.1's hit HIGHER at 32 yards than either of the more accurate pellets. The JSB's fit looser in breech. The fTT's must be set in straight, pushed slowly or head will cock & pellet ruined with land marks. You CAN just shove them in and get decent but I'm crazy OCD when it comes to finding precision for accuracy in projectiles. SO, why do you guys think the JSB 18.1's hit 2" higher & I have to turn my back sight wheel from 6 down to 3 when shooting them? They're heavier, you usually have more drop from a spring gun with a heavier pellet at 32 yards? Anyone? I'm honestly not sure if this is friction, BC, or POSSIBLY variance in recoil due to weights of pellet and my incurred hold pulling up a slight enough bit to show it in the groups. I'll go on phone & try & post pictures. The FTT open sighted R1 is at bottom, target was black smear of paint. Above that is me sighting in my RWS 48 w/ .177 7.9 Crosmans & I stopped when those 2 touched. I don't like getting guns wet at all. Will try to post from phone.

I was setting up for the Pyramyd Air Backyard Brawl tonight - 50 yards and sighting in a new/replacement Airmax Scope and my Walther LGV Challenger and got a couple of awesome groups via bucket and sticks. The gun is shooting JSB 10.34's at 790 fps (14.5 fpe). Group #8 was either 5 or 6 shots in one ragged hole - I sort of lost count due to the shots all passing through the same hole. Group #14 had just one shot that was just slightly low - the other 4 went roughly through the same hole. This gun is a shooter, I am just not fond of the plastic stock, though. The trigger has the yankee tune, but it hangs sometimes, so I get pulls to the right a bit. I am going to have to upgrade that.

On the Backyard Brawl, I hit the first mini-chicken with 1 shot at 50 yards. The second one took 3 tries.
