Quieting the FX Crown even more

He's definitely not a lever "B" guy (Weatherby) as you can see. He needs to move to the U.S. where we could really put him to work. I'd be first in line and I'd even buy the coffee..
Do you think the Poly barrel is more accurate than the "X" barrel or did you just prefer to shoot the Heavies and figured the Poly would be the better barrel for that?

Hey Jimmy, I've bought the gun as a 30cal, because good 30 cal barrels are hard to find, and I had great experience with king heavies in the chokeless poly barrels in the past. (B.t.w. seems that Baxter W found that out as well with a bunch of the earlier LW Ataman 30 cal barrels, which were way too loose to fit the pellets)

I think the secret of the x barrel lays in the fact that it has got a very slow twist rate, which makes it perfectly suited for pellets, as pellets are drag stabilised.
I don't have any experience with the x barrels yet, because the Crowns have just hit the market here in Belgium. (And I haven't even shot my .30 cal barrel yet because I immediately have installed the 25cal barrel and stainless steel probe :) )
It's hard to tell which barrel will be more accurate, but the things I've seen about STX barrels so far looks very promising.

"looknup"Has anyone tried venting the rear of the stock moderator with 4 to 8 small holes (1/16" or less)? I have found other moderators that benefited from rear venting including the stock moderator on my Royale 400. DonnyFL has started venting some of his moderators.
Although I haven't tried it on the stock shroud, my CF shroud is vented.
Wrapped some foam padding around the barrel to cover (and dampen) the holes. Without padding, it was substantially louder (a loud hiss when firing)
Now it is whisper quiet for a +60ft/lbs gun.

Been awhile since I got the Sumo in and finally had a chance to shoot outside utilizing the Crown and Sumo. Previously I had just shot several rounds in a room to get an idea of the sound reduction and there was a difference but it wasn’t huge. That was fine with me because the Crown is already very quiet and I figured most of the suppression that could be achieved, was.
Turns out I was very wrong. I brought the gun to a buddy’s house where we were shooting at 30 yards and the additional sound suppression once outside was extremely evident. I finally saw first-hand what everybody was talking about in that the action of the gun was clearly heard over the shot itself. We were both blown away by the performance of the Sumo. The point of impact did change by about 1/4” so once I accounted for that, 8 mags were shot and it was pellet after pellet in the same hole all day.
Outstanding product.

Not being a current Crown or Impact owner I have a question. Why make an extendable shroud in the first place? I don't ever take my LDCs off any of my guns, it's not like I say "Hey I want my gun to be louder today wish I had an extendable shroud". And if you're claiming making the gun shorter that seems weak at best. Buying a crown with mobility in mind doesn't seem right either. So is this more airgun bling? Kinda like a flashy fishing lure to catch more fisherman than fish.

So my question has anyone ever taken the Shroud off completely and attached the moderator directly to the barrel?

I haven't seen that done with the Crown, but I've seen it on the Impact. Maybe I'll try it in the basement tonight. I'll post some pics so you can see what it looks like.

BTW, on Donny's site, he advises to lock the shroud in the retracted position when using his adapter and suppressor. He has a pictorial that shows how to do that.

I have one of his shroud adapters on the way. My Crown 22 is nowhere near being quiet even with the shroud extended.
