Quiet RAW 1000x .30 cal.

For those of you who who are after a way of making your RAW quieter ( let’s face it the RAW moderator is pants) I think I have found a solution, unfortunately it does require a bit of engineering.

firstly I removed all the raw parts, and fitted a weihrauch moderator with the baffles bore enlarged to suit .30 to the barrel. before fitting the mod I drilled 6 x 3mm holes radially through the casing of mod in the camber nearest muzzle.

A layer of 3mm felt was wrapped around the mod and glued in place, I then made an over shroud using quality 40mm carbon tube that slipped over the felted mod and reflexes all the way down to the bottle. A simple shroud support near the bottle and an endcap keeping the carbon centred to the mod were the only parts I needed to fabricate. In the space over the barrel inside the shroud I filled with a open cell foam.

About 1 1/2” up from the bottom of the shroud I drilled 6 x 1.0mm radial holes through the shroud.

Basically, when a shot is fired the pellet passes through the moderator, the air following but some escapes through the radial holes in the mod into the shroud, some of that then escapes through the smaller holes in the shroud, each passage of air is slowed by the felt and foam. The smaller radial hole seem to stabilise the barrel as the air blasts through, greatly reducing muzzle flip, adding accuracy.

sadly I didn’t take any photos of the build as it was just a prototype for a customer, what I can say is it was really quite, certainly backyard friendly even though it was running at 95fpe.

sorry no pictures but anyone who has the tools and ability to modify the weirauch should have a good idea of what it looks like.

That’s a fact STO. I tried everything with the factory parts and even purchased some additional parts from RAW, it was baffling, nothing seemed to help at all. I tried felt, additional ports, fewer ports, finally I opened all the ports to three times their original size and it made no difference. I put it all back to factory specs. and am just dealing with it for now. Too busy to mess with it anymore right now.
