Quiet .177

Im starting to get the itch for some QUIET illegal backyard plinking. The rifle should also be match accurate. rather not convert a 7.5j 10 meter rifle but maybe a 16j could work?.

A field target rifle could be something to consider but most come without a silencer or shroud. Silencers usually work well imo but the hammer spring ping can be annoying.

Ideas?

If the price will fit your budget, there is a rifle that perfectly fits the description you listed. The .177 Daystate Air Wolf MCT with the Hugget moderator is crazy quiet! Also, there is no ping when the trigger is pulled - just an experience that something happened. At first it is easy to believe something is wrong with the rifle, due to the lack of typical mechanical noises and vibrations felt during the firing sequence of most air rifles. Try one if you can, it may be exactly what you are looking for.

The quietest .177 I own is the Air Arms Ultimate Sporter with Q-tec moderator. This is the FAC version and will produce 24 fpe, but you can dial it down to make a 10 meter AG out of it. You simply cannot hear it and at 12 fpe the sound is invisible to the ear. The accuracy, fit and finish are superb. I have a .22 Air Wolf MCT and the AA makes it sound loud, which I didn't think was possible.

"scrane"AA/CZ s200 with a decent moderator?
Huma makes a nice add on external reg.
Just tried mine with a Decimeater, which is similar to the Weihrauch Silencer... Extremely quiet. Even with the report virtually gone the action noise is very quiet, too. Altogether like a quiet cough: "keh"
I had been wondering what to do with the Decimeater... now I know.

Does it come with ½inch unf? tbh I been looking at the new green one they have. Trigger ok?

The s200 does not come threaded for 1/2-20. In fact there is a flat cut into the muzzle to hold an alloy set screw secured "muzzle brake". Adapters are commonly available and that flat allows for firm mounting of the adapter.
The trigger is OK. I haven't messed with mine, and it breaks cleanly. No creep. Trigger weight is relatively high at what I would estimate at 1-1/2 pounds. I imagine it can be improved, but probably not to match standards.
I think you could probably put a CZ barrel on anything and it would shoot well. The receiver of the s200 appears like it evolved from a pistol action. Bedding and stock screw positions are very unusual. (Rear action screw extends through the grip just like a pistol.) Barrel band is a little funky, but can be easily opened up to free float the barrel. The rifle is very accurate.
In order to upgrade the gun with a regulator the airtube has to be of the quick fill variety. If the tube is a non QF you'll have to upgrade it before adding the regulator. Honestly, I am not inclined to add a regulator to mine. Shoots well without. But the option is there.
The s200 is not really one of my favorites. It has its place though, because it is very small, very light, very quiet, and very accurate. Power is limited by its design. I am happy to shoot mine at around 700 fps with JSB 8.4 for 9.0 fpe. I use it to shoot grasshoppers. I think you can get around 12 fpe if you crank it up. 12 fpe would probably increase the noise level.
I had been shooting the gun indoors with a skinny 5" TKO moderator. It was quiet, but not remarkable. Your post prompted me to screw on the Decimeater and now it's REALLY quiet. I think the kind of quiet you're looking for.

Thank you for that info, its a rifle i been looking at off and on for some time. the form factor seems ok for indoor target also. I generally like the target grip. Another candidate is the hw110 in 12fpe. I heard that the action is really quiet and it would be easy to silence. a few more hundred € but i also looked at the steyers and they double the whole deal.

I will also recommend CZ S200. Extremely accurate, light, joy to shoot with it.
I bought cylinder, quick fill and regulator from Altaros (200 EUR as a kit). If you decide to go with CZ, this is a must, best upgrade ever. Cylinder (alu) is 400g lighter then original. I have some 70-75 shots from 190-95 bars, JSB Heavy 4.5mm 775 FPS average. I am using original LDC from AA, little bit modified, very quiet. Huggett Belita is so so... and I made custom DIY LDC similar to HW (2 buffles, 3 chambers in it, big - small - big) and that one is extremely quit, hammer strike is louder then rifle report.

Mine is laminate, and I think it is the best of all. Laminate is so tough. Friend of mine has a green one, also very good, but laminate is better quality then a wood they used on green one.
Here is a photo with green one and my WC

"spysir""illegal backyard plinking"

wont help.

John

Lol I was thinking the same thing. Why try to help someone who is stating they are about to do something illegal? People get all scared and up in arms about higher power airguns being the downfall to regulation but its actually people who use any airgun illegally that is a bigger threat. Im actually surprised a mod hasnt done something with the post.

yes yes because there is no irony or humour on the interwebs, dont worry im not in the US the feds wont come knocking .

Cheers darthmaul those cz200 looks really nice, I was kinda thinking about just getting a fx streamline. Going to check what thouse upgrades would make the cz200 end at. Sadly im thinking it might be close to the streamline. Right now since i shoot from indoor the hammer ping is actually my main noise problem.

Edit :wait a sec altaros sells a full tube kit? everything installed? time to get browsing
edit : yes you where right looks awesome. sadly it brings the gun up to the fx streamline in price. well the ugly synthetic version. hmm hmm hmm

Deja, you are on sweet trouble, decisions decisions...tough decisions :-D.
Just to clarify, noise from hammer strike is very very quiet, that should not bother you. Just as Scrane sad, it is like quite cough.
Even though I am very fond of FX guns (my next one will be FX ;-)), I would not change my CZ for a Streamline, especially for the synthetic one. Royale 400... hmmm, probably.

PS. If you decide to with Sreamline, please promise me you will add a 100 a take a walnut, ...at least...lol

Thing Fx has this weird policy in europe that krale cant sell outside netherlands, that leaves me with small local importers that dont even have the streamline in stock. a larger spanish one have the synthetic for a decent price but that walnut or laminate... well the laminate goes to close to a royale 400.

The thing with both rifles is that they are fairly light. i really like that. that power wheel tho...
