Question about Huma installation in FX Royale 400

I recently bought a Huma reg for my Royale 400. I'm not sure if I'm going to install it, as the FX reg is getting much more consistent after some break in. There is a spring washer in the factory setup (photo attached), that sits against the rear of the bottle adapter, in front of the regulator. I asked Ernest its purpose, and apparently it ensures that the reg O ring does not cover the vent hole, guess it keeps it slightly pushed back from the rear of the bottle adapter. Seems the pressure of the air chamber would do that anyway, but that was the explanation. Anyway, the Huma reg is shorter than the FX reg, and I don't know if this washer should be used with it or not. My guess, it may make no difference either way. If anyone has experience with this installation and can offer advice, I would appreciate the input.

I recently bought a used 400 that was regged. It developed a leak and when I took it apart there was a washer like that in mine and I thought "WTH". I took it out and have had no issues in over 500 shots. Didn't really make sense why it was there as like you I figured the air pressure would keep everything in place. So far, so good.

Yes, it's kind of a mystery to me as well. Seems the only time the reg might move forward, is if you remove the bottle, then release the residual air by loosening the bottle adapter. In that scenario, you are removing it anyway, so what difference does it make? I put it back, and everything seems to be working fine. If I decide to install the Huma reg, which is shorter, I'll leave it out. At this point, the FX reg sems to be working okay.
