Tuning Question about Dubber's new power tune video

My theory is that he tune in the middle of the power wheel so it’s easy to go up and down to find the sweet spot. I do something similar also, key to find sweet spot is when you turn up the power wheel 1 and you gain under 10fps and you lower 1 setting you loose 20-30 FPS, you can’t do that if you are tuning at max. After you find the sweet spot for your barrel and ammo then you can increase HS preload so you get the sweet spot on your max setting or close to max then you can tune for harmonic in high power mode with fine adjustment using HS and/or valve adjustments.

I thought about that and it makes sense, qball, but in my case I'm getting best groups...sub MOA with 1012 fps with NSA 38.5 gr slugs at Max. Turning down on the PW gives me looser groups. It seems with this particular weight slug, this is the magic speed.

I'm not sure I can get the same velocity on PW-3 at current reg setting which is right now around 160. I'm reluctant to push it much further.

It might be worth looking into because I get the middle tuning where you have headroom above and below but would that apply to .25. Dubber is a .22 guy..... but right now, we have been having non stop wind and a lot of rain here in NC. So can't get meaningful tuning tests at the target for now.

I was just curious as Dubber offered no explanation.

Thanks for the input

@drumsnguns: first of all if you got a good tune you are happy with then leave it! Hahahaha

alll FX gun with HS power wheel has preload adjustment, it is most likely you can get the same hammer force on 3 as Max if you simply increase the preload or a heavier hammer. This feature gives you the ability to really fine tune the HS and not limited to the numbers on the dial.

the heavier 38 grain slugs probably barely stabilized at 1000 FPS with superior liner, it is recommended to use superior heavy if you want to shoot a heavier slug. With superior heavy you can get great accuracy even below 800fps with most slugs.

My suggestion with heavy slugs is to get superior heavy or slug A liners before you waste time and money on slugs.

Totally agree

I have measured all of my settings so if I tried this I could always go back to where I was...but it might be worth look see

I'm shooting these 38. gr out of a Superior Heavy

See above....I am getting sub Moa at 75 yards with the Superior Heavy Liner...waiting for good weather to go out past 100 yds, new scope is on the way too

@drumsnguns

good to hear you have heavy liner! I have the .25 heavy liner but have not tried 38 grain, tried 36, 33 and 29 grain and all have shot accurately at different speeds. With heavier slugs I found harmonic really plays a big role, had heck of time finding an accurate tune until I installed earnest Rowe’s carbon liner sleeve. Once I got that bad boy epoxy on it was MUCH easier! It’s no where near as tune sensitive and can easily get 3-4 settings that shoot quite well and even when they are bad we are talking 1.5 -2 .5 inch groups at 100 meters as supposed to 1.5 being my best group before. HIGHLY recommend it! Plus I can shoot accurately at just about all settings below 850 FPS!

I tried a re-tune this morning w my Impact MK1 on PW 3 and it does quite well. It shoots sub MOA w JSB MK1 pellets at 50 yards...very consistant groups as well and good ES and SD.

I'll check it again tomorrow after the loctite sets on the HSTA and hopefully the weather will hold.

We've had nothing but wind and rain all week with a few tornadoes thrown in for good measure. I woke up to sun and 3 mph winds and skipped breakfast to get m butt out there to take advantage of the weather wind(less)fall.

Thanks for the tips, qball. I might have to try the CF sleeve but for now I'm getting sub MOA at 75 with the 38.5's.

I have ordered a couple of boxes of 43.5 grainers as well; they should be here middle of next week.

Centercut was having very good results with these. Hope to replicate his findings..

I might have a couple of boxes of 33.5's that I might sell if these heavier slugs work. I think the 33.5's work better in the Standard Superior and I don't have that liner.

Onward through the fog!!
