PSA - fill those guns s-l-o-w-l-y

I needed a reminder to not be in a hurry to refill my gun. I got one hand delivered by Murphy.

I noticed that I had 500cc tank too hot after a fill from the scba. I was throwing lead and having a great time and filled the tank too fast. Lo and Behold, the next day my gun was at zero pressure. I found the leak, on the fill block Oring. The ring was shredded. I firmly believe the only way I could have hurt that internal Oring was to have over heated it and weakened the material to the point that it failed.

My bad. Gotta keep those temps down for long life 😉

Polyurethane is tough in terms of resisting extrusion failure relative to other common materials (assuming equivalent durometer). However it has poor high temperature tolerance so it wouldn’t necessarily be a good choice if indeed heat was a contributing factor. At least not the common type of polyurethane...the more expensive Disogrin cast polyurethane has a higher temperature rating.
