Profit of a gun !!!?

I owned a retail Gunsmithing and Retail Gun Store for over 30 years before I retired. The markup for firearms was 25 percent if your bought right and out of that you had to pay for shipping. I made my money from the accesories and gunsmithing. Every one has to make a living and I would never ask a retailer what his cost was. I'm just thankful that they are there and selling what I want.

I do not ask retailers, I ask the manufacturer ! There is no weird thing here, you feel frustrated when someone asks about your income?

Its none of your business what my income is so yes I dont like people asking me personal questions. Let me ask you this question. What are you mad at most the airgun manufacturers profits or the manufacturers of clothing and other everyday essentials that use slave child labor to make said products in a third world country and then mark the items up 400%? Do you ever ask those manufacturers about their profits or complain about those companies policies and gross profits?

The truth is it doesnt matter what the cost of manufacture is it only matters what price the consumer is willing to pay for that product. If I made something and it cost me $50.00 to make it and the consumer is willing to pay $5,000 for the product thats the value of that item. The better your item is for quality and purpose/need the more its going to be worth. I dont care what the companies profits are I only care about the quality of the product. I will pay whatever the cost is if I get the performance/quality out of the product.

Okay, I've read into this. Some thought it was weird but I understand the whole concept of what's going on. This relates to firearms say your a "B" brand distributor. The dealer I knew said that if he could pay "B" back in the inventory he received in say 3 months it was only 70% of the original cost. So he'd sell at dealer price just to move the inventory faster. A lot of dealers hated this gun. But as the end user I liked the money savings.

Second example: custom knife making. I can make a knife that is completely the same as another gentleman. Same steel, heat treat and materials the only difference is the name stamped on the side. The difference is 1500 dollars. In fact he spends less time in the shop making the same thing.

The retail world is a strange and interest place. A lot of things go on behind the scenes that we don't know about. Maybe the retailer discounted his price to make room for a new line of items and in the airgun world wow. Things change over night.
