Prod/1720t pistoleros, regulated

Yeah I tossed around the idea of installing a regulator on my P-rod, but as it is I get 2 magazines worth of powerful and accurate/consistent shots. I can't imagine a regulator improving things very much unless I tune it down to a lower velocity, which I don't want to do.

If it was tuned down to about 600fps then yeah, maybe, but then I'd have a much less forgiving trajectory curve. And my range guessing tends to suck sometimes in this hilly terrain.

I shot my Prod for a year with a good base tune. It was shooting 14.3gr pellets around 650fps for somewhere around 4 mags. It was crazy accurate but I just can’t leave well enough alone. I wanted to see if I could get the gun in the 750fps range and still do it for 3 magazines. The SS valve tunes I was looking at were impressive. It seemed like most guys were turning the gun into a one magazine wonder canon because the SS valve is capable of producing some serious power. I just went for a 3 mag tune with the gun shooting a little hotter. I am like 2 or 3 shots shy of 3 magazines. I moved on to other projects but I will get back to it someday and get those last couple shots figured out. I was just shooting it this morning and it is so quiet. I think the SS valve made it even quieter because it’s just a more efficient valve that requires less strike.

I put a huma in my prod. Not sure it is worth it as the limited air tube space is something I didn’t think about. Being a hand pumper I decided to it was worth the $100 expense, to see if It would help me get more shots. It did and I went from 16-18 shots to 24 dependable shots. I’m sure it could be tuned for more shots with a lighter hammer and spring but there seems no off the shelf leight weight hammers for sale for prod. The bstanley o ring mod is great and cheap but I love seeing the flat shot string the regulator does compared to the bell curve. This prod has become a little money pit with “add ons” but I still like it and would recommend it to other beginners or first purchase-ers.

Thanks for all the input guys. I was torn between the Prod and the Talon SS. I ended up going with the Talon mainly because of the greater shot count available in the sweet spot, it’s ease of caliber conversion. With a top hat shim I can regulate velocities (in .22), from around 550 fps to 850 fps. I have a used Talon in .22 coming. Once I have it figured out l’ll be looking for a .177 bbl. for it.

I’m hoping the top hat shim will be the only mod necessary to make it sweet shooting.

I’ve read that a scope level will keep you from tilting the gun for longer range accuracy. If you sight in for about one inch low at 10yds you can just use your mill dots to hit your target at close range. One inch low puts you close to zero at 20/25 yds and then again at 35yds after that you are back on the mil dots, depending of course on your pellet velocities you are shooting.
