Prism for Prod/1720t?

not sure havent tried it .. what youd need is about a 4" piece of low pic rail that could be mounted using the forward 2/3rds of it to the receiver half in the rear of the mag port ..

Yeah I've looked around for picatinny extenders etc, and everything seems to have mounting points about as large as a prism mount, if it would give enough space to allow for a prism to mount : /

I started the process of figuring this out some time ago but didn't get very far.

As I recall I found a low profile dovetail to picatinny adapter that was too long but the screw spacing was going to work well with the rear section of rail behind the magazine. It was going to have to be cut but still two or three screws on the rail.

I measured some prism scopes at local stores & the mount was going to fit but I thought the eye relief was a potential problem with so little room to move it back & forth.

I do think it can be done. Have to start with the right adapter & then find the prism with the right eye relief.

I'll see if I have any of the products I was considering bookmarked on my laptop.

The effectively 0 eye relief kills these for me -- I'm going detachable rear stock, so it would lengthen the overall length for backpacking it. Also, glasses, so no eyecup :(

Look like cool, affordable scopes tho.

Still curious about this if you want to post what you were looking st.

I did have a folder of products in my bookmarks but most of the relevant ones were dead links. I should have time next week to dig through all of my adapters and see if I ordered something.

I suspect with the 2.7" eye relief of the 5x Spitfire you might need an offset adapter to bring the scope back a bit. I don't know how forgiving the eye relief is on the higher powered prisms. I looked through a Spitfire 1x recently and it seemed like the eye relief was fairly forgiving so maybe that will translate to the 5x as well. Of course I was just looking through one at a shop and not actually on a rifle and shooting, which is the real test.

I hope that works for you. I still may convert my Prod into a dedicated backyard bunny rig. A prism scope would be my preference for sure. Please keep us updated.

I played with a 3x spitfire Ii and 5x spitfire ii at Bass Pro today (there's one 2 miles from me) and cancelled my order from the smaller retailer I ordered from. Pretty sure as you said I'd need an offset mount to work with it which I don't particularly want. Gonna buy one at Bass Pro I think and mount it and return it if it doesnt work -- don't really want it sticking too far off the back because the stock I'm getting for my 1720t is screw off so it would lengthen it a bit for backpacking.

Because I apparently have mental problems and hate money, I ordered an Immersive Optics 5x30 as well to play with. That may end up on my leshiy 2 anyways .. Regardless, I'll have some reporting back to do.

The Spitfire ii 3x was WAY more forgiving, eye relief wise than the 5x. Eye box was so much bigger. Hard to really get a sense without it mounted though, as you said. Quality felt great, really nice reticle, very clear glass.

I was impressed with the 1x I looked through. No 3x or 5x on the shelf. Hopefully it will work for you. Post a picture of it mocked up on your 1720 even if it's not going to work out.

Just thinking out loud, would it be possible to have a fixed mount prism scope that mounted forward of or possibly even over the breech & then load with a sliding tray?

I believe I saw a 1720 that had a picatinny adapter that mounted over the breech & then a loading tray that slid underneath.

That would open up other options if the 3x doesn't work out.

Monstrum makes a 5x with around 3.8" eye relief as I recall.

Could you link to what you're talking about in terms of the sliding loading tray?

Having a rail over the breech would simplify all these concerns.

Here is one for a Vulcan I found on Ebay but the same concept. I've never seen a 1720T but I assume they have a beveled breech area that a pellet is dropped into? Can that be removed? Or better yet, are the sides low enough that it would still be useful with a picatinny rail mounted over it?

Here is the lowest dovetail to picatinny adapter I have found other than the individual spring loaded ones like UTG and others make.

@scouty gotcha, interesting idea -- I should have the 1720 Monday, I'll post some pics when it arrives.

the 1720 with a folding stock is one of my favorite guns of all time. With the 5x spitfire scope it will be light, quiet and deadly accurate. I tuned mine to 8fpe and dropped a squirrel at 47 yards before with a headshot. it’s a laser with crosman 7.4 grain pointed pellets but packs much more punch if you shoot pass 30 yards with the 10.4 grain hades which is a lot more accurate in the wind by far. But I have over 10,000 crosman pellets because I got them at 1 cent a pop. My goal when shooting the 1720 is to make a hole then try not to enlarge it too much with the next shot.

you will love it! Mine is with a friend of mine right now, should get him hook on Airguns well. 🤣
