preferred head diameter for .177 pellets

 

depends on the gun. My BSA R10 shoots 4.50 the best. Hates anything bigger.

I’ve had success with 4.52, my wildcat and marauder both shot that size very well. Better than 4.50 which forced me to actually sell my 4.50 pellet sizer.

I have had very little that were larger than 4.54 and non that were smaller than 4.51 so I think you have it about right. Thanks again for my Pelletgage"R" in .177 size 4.51. Works great. Everyone should have one. Sure makes sorting much faster.

Jerry, I have your .177 gage and use it on every pellet I shoot, Both of my Air Arms rifles will only shoot extremely accurate with 4.52 head size, anything less is a no-no, always accepted flyers as part of the game before your Pelletgage showed me why I had them!! Keep up the good work!! J.L.

All my three of my .177 rifles prefer 4.49-4.52. I have your pellet gage and will say wadcutter pellets are a pain to sort.

I am just going to throw this out there to possibly help you get more responses in the wadcutter/target pellet category on possible skirt sizes. I purchased some of the Creedmoor by Vogul pellets linked below. I only measured 25 but every single one the head would not fit through the 4.48 and would through the 4.49. The skirt on all 25 was larger than the 4.55 hole. I have not measured any other wadcutter/target pellets, but found this interesting.

Edit: Went back and looked at the gauge. Changed 4.54 to 4.55.

The .177 LW polygon barrels like the JSB monsters in larger head sizes. Mine likes 4.55 better than 4.54. So, I would go up to 4.55. I haven't had a rifle that likes anything less than 4.50. That's with JSB pellets though.

My HW likes the 4.52 nothing else

“ JSB’s” 4.54+ for both LW poly barrels, 4.53 for my LW-12 groove, 5.54+ for .22 LW poly.! (JSB ARE YOU LISTENING?)

my raw 500bm177 seems to like different sizes,,, I do use your sizing tray. if buying a new tray id want it to be 4.48 to 5.55.

I think trays from this size is the ideal option,

My daystate likes 4.52s. I have your gauge, works great!
