My health isn't all that it could be. I try to go out "on patrol" with our air rifle at least once or twice a day in a golf cart as a way to get me out of bed and out of the house, but I don't really care all that much if I shoot anything or not. It's done wonders for my attitude and mental outlook on life.
I didn't bother to take either my shooting stick or my walking stick with me when I went out today because I wasn't feeling all that great, and I didn't figure I'd get out of the cart. But when I got down to the gate, I had the urge to take a little walk down the road a bit to see what the chip monk situation was there. It was a dirt road with a little over an inch of packed snow covering it.
Since I hadn't taken either my walking or shooting stick, which could marginally double as a walking stick, I had the thought to try using the flat head shovel I keep on the back of the cart in case I get stuck in the snow.
You know, that worked great as a walking stick, and although I didn't try it as a shooting stick, I think it would have worked even better than my "mother of all shooting sticks" in that role, too. I don't have the strength to hold the rifle steady enough to shoot without a stick or some other aid.
So if any of you have health challenges like I do, you might want to try a flat head shovel sometime. It might surprise you how well it works. It's not going to be any good indoors, of course, but I was pretty impressed with it this morning.
I hope this helps someone.
Glory be to our holy God.
