Power Plenum ~ Taipan Veteran

600mm STX system with smooth twist liner and 3 other liners to truly fine the most accurate / Power combo . 😎

So one liner plus 3 others trying to find the best one? Different liners or the same pellet or slug liner? If it is the same, do you recommend buying 3 or 4 liners to test, keep the best performing and return the others? I’m not that familiar with STX and thought they were all the same due to tighter manufacturing processes. I guess just like any other barrel, some are measurably better than others... Thanks!

Just like buying multiple barrels to find which barrel/liner is a shooter. If returned the liner will be tested for craftsmanship and accuracy if accuracy is within spec no refund will be issued.

Gotcha, so a “barrel lottery” just like all other manufacturers. Thanks Ernest. ;)

I'd bet some "barrel lottery's" odds for some manufacturers are better than others. Seems to me the LW barrels on the latest Taipan Veteran's are not as good as say Daystate's. I think the CZ barrels were better on the Taipans. There are "top shelf" options for LW it seems. At least with FX the process is more simple and there is less machining involved. Less tools & machining processes used in the bore translates to less potentially for introduced problems that are left behind for the consumer to deal with.

Would love to see what you did to connect it all together. What did you wind up doing at the breech end? Thought about doing something similar with a 700mm sleeve or some carbon fiber, and making a threaded adapter for one of my 600mm liners, but I need this build short and I'm already at 54FPE in .217 @460mm.

Ernest Rowe siempre ha sido muy generoso y comunicativo con información y ayuda.

Él es el gran equipo por el que preguntas. ¡Ejercito de uno! 😁💪🏼

Finished making a new valve tonight for my Vet. Used some of that Ketron PEEK and 6AL-4V Ti for this pin, overall it weights 1.60 grams.

I'm pretty sure that Ed from EDGun could run it over with his Land Cruiser and it would stay in tact lol. I have two more that I need to make more pins for to test out. One will have a 2mm O.D. where it's exposed in the valve housing for theoretically better airflow like the diagram that was posted earlier in this thread (I'm also going to test some new valve housing designs soon).

If anything, I can sleep better now that I have a beefier replacement valve (especially for testing higher pressures / larger valve porting).

Is taipan factory valve weak or not strong enough for working in high pressure, or not recommended for heavy hammer spring and power plenum ??

Can I buy two from you ???

I have PayPal account and USA address.

Keep in mind that ti has a higher friction rate.

It is complicated to get a perminent miror shine on it, pretty soon there will be brass residu on the stem.

Reducing stem diameter wil give instability in the metal structure of the stem, I would be careful with it.

Regards, Robert.

He's talking about reducing the OD for flow. This is the area of the VS that has no bearing surface. I'm sure he's being careful but it's his PCP to play with.

I don't see it being any worse than the steel used in the factory pins, which tend to get some surface rust (thus causing more friction and some light brass residue build up). I polish the hammer / friction side of my pins with a microfiber cloth dampened with Slick50 anyways 😎

@zx10wall - thanks man, I should have one with the 2mm side done for testing this weekend (my resupply of lathe bits are coming this afternoon). As soon as I stress test the design, I can hook you and @m.elserafy1985 up. I'm also a little anxious to try another idea for a slightly different valve housing design, I post some details once I get a couple if them built and tested 🤞

ZX,

Jep, I know, not the bearing surface.

I am just an old fool who has done a lot of stupid stuff

and I hear the word power a lot in this topic, a weakened valve stem will be a challenge.

A while ago I made improved valves for the Edgun R3.

Also a ti version, the loss of weight was my goal, ended up with a 1,63 gram valve.

But:

You can see the brass residu.

With a properly hardened and polished steel stem you won't have this problem.

Like you sayed; it is his pcp to play with.

I have been following this topic from the start, it is great reading.

By the way.. when I was testing hammer springs the other night, I had two pretty interesting things happen using 25gr Monsters.

First, I can achieve 58FPE when I have the HST set just right...

That setting was extremely hard to find, and I cannot always reproduce it after losing the tensioned position.

The second thing, which totally blew my mind was a 9FPE tune with that same spring configuration and JSB Monsters..

I haven't ever attempted to tune something that low before. The SD was really tight even for being that low. Maybe it's just me, but having the ability for a +/-50FPE tune with just the HST truly amazes me 🤔
