Just worked on an installation and tune of a Huma power plenum on my Wildcat 30. I’m very pleased with the results and the accuracy that has become of it. I decided to change my thought pattern for this install, and not go for the initial 940 FPS I had with just the Huma reg and standard 38mm spacer, but instead go for a more moderate tune that was a mix of high power still but better shot count. What I ended up with using 44.75 grain pellets is an average of 919 FPS for 28 shots with an ES of 11 FPS. It’s always that one shot thru the chrono at a low velocity that ruins a tight spread it seems, but what impressed me with this shot string is I got 3 sets of doubles, and one set of four 922’s in a row. At this tune of 84 ft lbs, I’m good with it.
Then came the targets. I’m always settled with a sight in at 40 yards. The top right target(all 2” targets for the large ones, 1” for the smaller ones, and all bulls are 1/2” in diameter) was my fine tune sight in, and from there I shot at at the different targets in a pattern based on the way I labeled them numerically. (3) shots into each 2” target and (1) shot in each smaller one, in a somewhat quick pace. Reason for shooting at a quick pace was I was doing another test at the same time, and that was troubleshooting a jamming of the magazine to the pellet probe. At first I thought it was the indexing arm design, but turns out it was a faulty ball bearing catch on one of the four mags I had. At any rate, the quick cycling of the cocking latch just caused me to just shoot quicker at each target. So basically, it was an “acquire and fire” scenario.
I saved the middle target for unloading all 28 regulated shots, as I wanted to see the drop in elevation when it fell off of reg. All 28 shots were in the bulls. I’m good with 4 magazines worth of shots.
This coming Friday I'm going to try and reach out at further distances to see if they remain this tight. All in all I’m very pleased with the new Huma power plenum kit. I would recommend this upgrade to any wildcat owner seeking moderate high power in conjunction with a decent shot count.
