Powder coating pellets.........../

I played around with powder coating some .30 JSB 44.75 grain pellets. PITA to powder coat ....but results were promising. The pellets right out of the powder coating were OK,but had 2 fliers out of 5 shots. The pellets that I LIGHTLY sanded the base flat with 600 grit worked great...even tho it was only a 5 shot group at 80 yards.

Aluminium plate with nails to hold the pellets up to avoid a flashing around the skirt base. Work great, but a balancing trick to get it in the oven without them falling off :)

Hello, that idea already had the Cometa brand in Spain in the 1980s approximately.
They hoped to reduce the friction in the cannon, but stopped producing them for several reasons.
The speed increase was not significant.
Due to the friction, plastic remains remained in the cannon, which cost to remove later.
And finally, the packages looked like candy, with the risk of children eating them.
I hope I have been helpful.
a greeting

Now that is way cool. I always wanted to try glow in the dark paint, But just never got around to it, I have heard of people painting the back end of the pellet white to see it better in flight , I never tried that ether,

Mike

I have also tried that, but at the moment I do not have satisfactory results. a greeting

Tambien he probado eso, pero de momento no tengo resultados satisfactorios.

I might be done powder coating unless I really get bored. Time could be better spent weighing /sorting. I Just noticed that the ones I powder coated were 50 gr JSB...so the above first post target was the 50 gr JSB, not as identified as 44.75 gr. Either way, they did not group any better than the uncoated 50 gr pellets. I shot some more of them today, but first cleaned the barrel with a few dry patches. Shot about 20 of the powder coated pellets and ran another patch through the barrel...it came out relatively clean....so that is a plus. On my other hand, shot several targets with washed but unsorted 44.75 JSB and got terrific results(NO WIND). Picked up a couple of uncoated pellets in the snow and was kinda disappointed in the rifling marks....4 lands and groves, but uneven widths of the rifling marks around the circumference of the pellets. Also found a coated pellet that bounced out of the solid oak log.

Interesting... Did you them using the "Shake N Bake" method?

Neat idea to not foul the barrel.

Wonder if it will affect barrel wear?

lead is still lead. I haven't had issues with that, but I wouldn't expect anyone should, being that the core of the pellet is still lead and malleable, the coat will follow its lead, in my opinion... :D
