Posting your "magic" group

OK, Fuss, here they are. Targets shot with my RAW TM1000 which I use for BR. The first on is at 25 yards, the second at 50 yards, and the last two are again at 25 yards. The last picture shows the difference between sorted and unsorted pellets and are 10 shot groups. I wouldn't trade this gun for any FX or Thomas out there.

Looks mighty fine Paul. Yes sir, I'd say that's a keeper for sure!

Maybe it would be fun to have informal matches where we all shoot the same target at the same distance, and then share pictures of the groups to see who won. I’m definitely going to be getting some official targets, I like the idea of one shot at each tiny circle. Instant truth printed out, then you move on to the next circle and try again. I can’t wait to try it. I just love these group pictures. Keep em coming!

I compete in a monthly postal match, the William Buck Memorial Benchrest Match. The shooters mostly comprise rimfire shooters, but there are a few of us that shoot air rifles too at 25 and 50 yards. The guys that run the matches are great. The rules are simple and the targets are provided on PDF files. You print, shoot, score, scan, and submit your targets each month, and it's on the honor system, of course. You can contact Norm and Larry by email to get on their distribution list: [email protected]. I'm hoping we can get more airgunners involved. Originally, we had 10M, 25, 50 and 100 yard events, but the participation was low, but those could be resurrected.

Shot the RAW HM1000x HP .22 caliber at 100 yards for some NUAH practice targets. I went out on 11/5 and again today on 11/07/19

This 100 yard BR shooting is hard! Two 'magic groups' out of 10 total targets, 5 shots per NUAH target. Took several sighter target shots to zero at 100 yards, and then I dealt with the NUAH targets. I do agree with CenterCut that you DO need to shoot and shoot and shoot to try and see how the gun and shooter perform. RAW Poly barrel was dirty on the 5th, so I ran some patches and did a bit better. I did not wash, sort, size or lube the JSB 25.39g RD pellets. I can try that, but I want a hobby not a career; and not sure I have the patience for all of that sizing and sorting. I am sure it does help, so maybe some day. Had a lot of fun both outings!

Nice work Tom. Folks don't realize all the hard work that goes into getting that magic group, and I didn't at first either. Good to see you follow suit with all the targets it took to get there. I probably shoot at least a half dozen of the NUAH targets when trying to get my magic groups as well.

You should enter that 50/50 2x in this months challenge. That should be a winner for .22 cal!

Way to go man!

Thanks guys!

Wind was 3-5 SW but I didn’t use a wind flag and I’m going to order some so that I can start using them regularly.
My one and only ‘magic group’ was my first target today and next four were all over the place. X rings were hard to come by today. This Score shooting is a blast! Thanks for all your advice too guys. I’m soaking it up like a sponge.

I’m fortunate in that I have a local shooting buddy who has mentored me on PCPs and .22 LR BR shooting for the last 18 months and he and I shoot together regularly. He is also on this forum and is a wealth of knowledge!

Granddaughter #2 is expected on November 13th ( or before!!), so I will be up in D.C. helping out with the 14 month year old at our daughter’s home.

Fuss - if you get a chance can you PM me the process for submitting a NUAH target? Also, when does NUAH monthly start in 2020?

Thanks, Tom

Damn Doug, you make me regret swapping guns with you! But honestly, every Vulcan I've owned has been just as accurate. That one really did win the gorgeous stock lottery, and accuracy is awesome, but I have a .25 Vulcan Tactic gen4 that is the same (I've shot them side by side) that I'll be selling in a bit on AGN, and also a .30 Vulcan2 Tactic that shoots pellets and slugs the same as the two .25 guns. The .30 is pretty ugly though, with the black synthetic stock, but its going to get a bad ass hydro dip in a month or so, haven't decided on the pattern yet but I'm thinking Skulls of some sort. ;) It also needs a good tune to get the shot count up, so I'll be adding a power plenum and adjusting the reg. and HST for maximum efficiency so the 44.75s will be in the 855 to 860 range to get me at least 3 magazines (27 shots) on a 250 bar fill. We'll see how successful I am, and once its all done I'll post here on it...

I agree with 5 shots being a minimum number of shots on a group. Also don't like to cherry pick also. My goal a year ago was to go for the Master rating on the GTA NUAH club. I had 2 guns that would shoot at 55yds with basically single pellet hole accuracy at times so knew I had a good chance. Took 3 times for the Taipan and 6 for my WARP as I hadn't cleaned my barrel in awhile and as soon as I did 2nd try I got it. But when posted I showed all results not just my cherry picked ones. I no longer own both of these guns and what I would do to get them back!!

First attempts with Taipan Veteran Long .22

First attempts with WARP .30

Knew this wasn't right so cleaned the barrel and then shot these 2
