Posted Iguana Hunt Video for Puerto Rico

Hi, I'm very pleased you enjoy the green lizard hunting in PR. The realty is they are destroying great part of agriculture here, specially if the farm is near water. They seem unstoppable and when there are some ways to use airgun hunters to control the lizards. Here the Department of Recursos Naturales,(natural resources dept) have regulation and hunting law, declaring that iguanas as exotic species in here CAN BE TRAPPED OR TAKED BY HAND, ridiculous, everybody knows they bite and hit with theirs tails. By no means, it can be "hunted" without a write permit of the Dept Secretary and seal. So, locally a bunch of airgun hunters have a great deal to hunt iguanas.
I just wondered, with the great exposure of Hatsan, NRA etc.. promoting the hunting in PR, how do you obtain the permits of the Secretary of Natural Resources to hunt with airguns? As far I know, only the department officials can hunt the iguanas if you call the dept.
Anyway, the point I try to explain is, here are law and regulation about hunting and it includes airgun too, not merely you buy an airrifle some pellets and go hunting iguanas, I you do, an being catched you could be fined. I think with the problem these lizard present to economics, it should be an ammentment to law to permit without a permit to hunt iguanas free with airguns. Thank you friends and keep reporting the way you do. Cheers from Puerto Rico.

Iguana Hunting Trip to Puerto Rico with Airguns or Gas pistons air riffle, anyone coming into the island from abroad bring your own Air gun Riffle or Gas piston riffle and we could coordinate and take you around the island to the Best possible places for the real Iguana hunting action. We are a Retired group from the Armed Forces that lives in Puerto Rico and we spend our time fishing and hunting Iguanas around the island.

Hello All, I'm a friend of jacardonapr and his brother Ben, we all retired Army, Navy and Air Force in that order. He pointed me to this forum, as I've only being hunting iguanas for less than a year. The east side of the island its on a drought right now and seem like they had moved to better pastures :) They will be back soon and they will be more than plenty. The first week I hunted with Ben, we dropped over 300 iguanas in an area no larger than 200 yds in every direction. That was 3 years after I retired from the AF and was rusty on my gun skills. I hunt with my spring loaded Hatsan's 22 & 25 and I really loved my Hatsan Iguana Killer (.22). You can hunt PCP, but we liked the spring/nitros due to the nature of our hunting, deep inside the boonies, on creek beds, etc and that give peace of mind compared to a more costly airgun that might get damaged due to humidity, mud, etc. In PR, Law 404 is the guide for firearms and the only restriction for airguns is based on the 15 U.S.C.A. & 5001 "18 yrs old to buy or use". Easy does it! As for the DRNA laws, you need a permit if you are hunting them on a Natural Reserve & with a firearm, during dove or boar season, as a by catch kill.

Well my friends, lets point something the partners above forgot to mention about "hunting in PR for iguanas or everything else".
First law 404 is for firearms, do not contemplate airguns, ok
Second: please read all the law 241, 15 August 1999 and respective Amments and then you will find.
Third: You will find Regulation 6765 11 February 2004 enmended, here you could see what you could do and Don't.
For more information you can go to www.drna.pr
Please, note I'm a licensed hunter for more than 12 years, I do not make the law or regulations, but instead like to inform / advise other people.
I understand the green iguana is a real problem to farmers and other people property, and there would be a legislation to grant the elimination understand kill iguanas with airguns following safety procedures. When this will change? Ummm. In the meantime enjoy killing green iguanas around the Island knowing there is a regulation in the Estado Libre Asociado that stipulates it is illegal. Bon Appetitx

Yes, Law 404 is for firearms, but does address pneumatic weapons on Chapter 7, Art. 7.02...Regulation 6765 for now, only covers registered firearms to be used for iguanas, during open hunting season for other species. Like you mentioned, when will they legislate or update 6765? Who knows. What I gather from the local DRNA office in my town, was to have the "non-sporting" hunting permit issued, under Law 241, Art. 16 for now...until the issue is resolved, which might never happen the way the Government runs this colony.

Soooooo, today I killed an Iguana......they are all over my house and I had come to terms with it but today while waiting on some stray dogs that attacked my father while he was walking his dogs I came upon an iguana about 30yards from where I was. I could not help myself the rifle was loaded and he was right there lol... I don't have video of me shooting it but I do have video of the iguanas all over my yard. I almost stepped on one when I walked out the house two days ago. If I ever figure out how to load the videos I'll show u all.

You have to upload the video to a web site like youtube and then post a direct link to the video on here in your post.

I didn't realize DRNA authorized people. When I spoke with them they told me to shoot as many as I could since they were considered a pest. Regarding rules....no firearm certificate is required with air rifles. Common sense is obviously a priority as well as permission to hunt where you go. The iguaneros are a good group of people I know personally and I guarantee the east coast people will be just as helpful and friendly. If you are in the northwest tip give me a buzz and I'll take [email protected]

FOR EVERYBODY'S BENEFIT, I'm translating in English from the DRNA website:
4) Can I shoot an iguana on my property? Answer: In Puerto Rico, isn't legal to fire pneumatic airguns or firearms outside a shooting range, unless you are hunting and you have a license to hunt or permit from DRNA to do so.

20) What permit do I need to capture iguanas in areas administered by DRNA or use a weapon for that same purpose? Answer: The permit is for Scientific Research, with the purpose of population control only. You must submit a proposal indicating the type of weapon use for the methodology.

(As I completed the paperwork, in order to acquire the permit to hunt them legally, I found out than along with the proposal, the DRNA required a job resume and a $25 process fee. This permit covers hunting in public land and private land (with owner's approval) and also covers hunting them on Natural Reserves (notifying before hand the Natural Reserve warden).
