Poor man's Bug Buster or "bust"?

Is anyone using this scope? If it's good quality it seems like it would be a good alternative to the UTG.

I hate UTG. The 31 flavors of colored reticle is for sissies. Every time I feel the need for a 100 dollar scope I buy a hawk vantage. Let the hateful replies begin! 😂🤣

I have not tried the hawk vantage, I will give a try and see. maybe my bug buster will be one of the ones on the classifieds lol. Although the bug buster I have is not illuminated version.

Hawke’s are pretty decent glass for the money. I like the simple Mil-dot reticle they use. If you go that route look for one with an adjustable objective (AO) like this https://www.airgundepot.com/hawke-optics-vantage-3-9x40-ao-rifle-scope.html If you don’t, you will likely have to marry a precise cheek weld because your POI will change at slightly different positions with the regular Hawke Vantage scopes. Also take a look at the Aim Sports Alpha 6 scopes. If you’re willing to spend more you can catch them around $200 on sale. I’ve used them and love em for them money. Haven’t used this Aim Sports compact, but based upon my experience with the Alpha 6 and the reviews for this one, I’d take a chance on it for $63 https://www.opticsplanet.com/aimsports-3-9x40-dual-ill-scope-compact-scope-w-rings.html

Amazon has more reviews Aim Optics 3-9X40 Compact Scope/Green, Medium, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005SVEORQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_S6HRPW6PTC6F06KJ0PDY

I’m far from a scope expert. This is my opinion.

The Hawke Vantage 2x7x32 is probly the best $100-150 scope you will find out there and has that wonderful reticle as well.

The Vector Optics Veyron and Discovery VT-3 scopes are both compact and lighter weight scopes in 3x12x44 with 30mm tubes. They are both decent for the money around $200 and both Mil/Mil scopes so none of that funky Hawke Mil/MOA stuff going on. So there is some give and take between the two and I like them both for what they are.

If you are going for an FFP the Veyron has a pretty thin reticle and it can get lost in a dark background at lower magnification. But it does focus down to 7 yards at full 12 power so that is not often a problem. It weighs in at 17.6oz and has a nice Mil Hash reticle. It is available in a 2nd focal plane scope as well.

The Discovery will just barely focus to 10 yards if you turn the power down to 6 but it has a thicker reticle that is easier to pick up at lower magnification so it is not a problem either. It weighs in at 18.3oz and has a nice Mil Quad reticle. These are also available in 1st or 2nd focal plane.

The Alph6 4.5x27x50 is in the same price range with very good glass and a very good scope for the money as well. Like the Veyron the reticle is a bit thin though.

If you can manage a bit more money the SWFA fixed power scopes are an excellent buy as is the Athlon Talos BTR 4x14x4.

Hard to go wrong with any of these $100- $300 dollar scopes.

Generally speaking I'd agree. I ahd one of those scopes with that "option".... what I found was some of the colors actually worked better for my eyes than the usual red/green, and that some times of day could use one of the colors that worked better for those conditions.

But other than ^^^, yea its a gimmick.

I bought a Pinty 3x9x32 about 18 months ago for $35.00. Did an extensive review on Amazon. For the price it is worth a try, if you are going to use it on a PCP. I used one on a break barrel & it would no longer hold zero. ( I should have known better) Contacted the company & they shipped me a new one, great support. They went on sale and I bought another for $27.00. Since then they have gotten a lot of positive reviews & the price went up & stayed there.

It's small light weight, clear and has decient turrets. I shoot from 50 yards in, so I don't dial the turrets & can't comment on their longevity dialing all the time. There are better scopes for more money, but for $45.00 in the Compact Tactical class I think it's a winner on a PCP, if size and weight are important to you.

+1 with biohazardman's suggestions. All are excellent recommendations at there respective price points.

I would agree with several of the earlier posts. If you are trying to keep cost to the minimum, I would suggest saving your nickels until you can pick-up the Hawke Vantage 2-7. It has a good balance of reasonably good glass, usable reticle, light weight, and focuses down to about 10 yds.

Biohazardman did a great job of listing several other scopes. All well worth the extra money if you can spend more.

One caution. I think we are all assuming you are buying this for a pcp. If you are using it on a springer, make sure the scope is springer-rated. The Hawke Vantage is not. In the Hawke line, you'd need to go the Hawke Airmax. More expensive.
