Polished my barrel

fe7565@Antj Looking forward the results. Did you chrony before the polish? Also, what/how did you polish? I read some posts here about various ways, just curious.

To all: Does anyone use Molybdenum Disulfide powder inside the barrel or on any moving parts?
I actually did not chrony before I polished. The numbers were 908fps factory so I'm guessing around that number I am not sure. As far as polishing, I used jb bore paste with kroil oil on a bore mop for 100 strokes. I then push a few clean patches thru the barrel to clean up a bit. I used a mop to buff the bore for another 100 strokes with a very light coat of oil for a super finish. I shined a light in the barrel and I almost went blind from the glare...lol

You can put molly, ver lightly on moving parts outside of barrel. Trigger sears, bolt guide, hammer spring ends and bushings. I would not put it in the barrel unless you want to try cleaning it out. It won't make the barrel slicker or clean easier but just the opposite. Molly is meant for metal to metal contact, steel in fact and not gun barrels.

I too have been very tempted to try polishing my barrel on my Wildcat .22 but haven't had the nerve.
I don't mean to hijack your thread, but does anyone know what the major gun manufacturers do to their barrels before they put them on their rifles. My Wildcat's barrel is extremely shinny inside. They must do some sort of a polish or smoothing process?

My accurate Cricket went to Georgia Airguns for a repair. While there Charlie said/asked "let me to polish the bore" it will remove any fliers. I said to Charlie "its laser accurate are you sure polishing is good?" Charlie said "no worries it will only remove fliers".

Long story very short, KalibrGun stopped making .177 Cricket Compacts so Georgia Airguns couldn't find a replacement barrel. I had to have a custom barrel made. It took over 4 months and cost me more money than I care to say. Be careful polishing your airgun bore. If not done right you can trash your barrel.

Sam,
Are you saying that you had to replace the barrel because of the polishing? If so, I think I will reconsider doing mine!

When the Cricket went in for service it was shooting quarter size groups consistently at 55 yards weather permitting. When it came back I was getting flyers every few shots at 40 yards. Charlie stated he over polished the bore and apologized. The barrel had to be replaced. It was stressful and costly process.

You-tube has good videos on how to polish a bore. Do some research before polishing. If you have an accurate barrel I would leave it alone. If your not happy with the barrels accuracy polishing the bore will help if done properly.

I'm sure everyone will have their different opinions of what "would" or "could" happen to your barrel after a polish. There is no way to know unless you perform the task! If you research polishing there are going to be people's saying yes and no to polishing.. Personally, I can't see how polishing a barrel would ruin it. Now if the device your using causes damage to the inside then yes I can see where it could ruin a barrel. Most people who give advice are people who think they know everything and never even attempted the procedure! My advice would be to try and see. Only 2 things can happen from there!
