Plinking with the 124s

It's ironic that older you get, the less time you have to spend with friends. At my age, it's Parents on one side and kids on the other. Toss in a demanding work load and there's not much time left in a day. Fortunately, yesterday wasn't one of those days. Instead, it was an afternoon spent with a fellow FWB 124 enthusiast. Yeehaa!

My buddy Mike showed up with an ultra rare ARH F120. It is a sight to behold. The craftsmanship and finish are world class! Just a functioning work of art...a piece of airgun history. It was nerve wracking to hold it and shoot it. But man was it easy to shoulder and catch a bead. The rifle has a fantastic ergonomic feel. It is weighted towards the front which gives it great stability. Easy to hold on target to get a good shot. The trigger was set to a two stage drop with a let off that was easy to predict. Shot with a quick thunk and first shot on the bullseye....with the old plastic sights. What an absolute treat and a privilege to be able to enjoy this rifle even for a few hours.

I had to reciprocate by getting out my Beeman/Feinwerkbau Custom aka....The King Bee....another rare version of the FWB 124. This one was rolled out by Beeman. The history of this version is vague and surrounded with supposition. There's a thread about it from years ago. Supposedly there were less than 25 made. I've only seen a picture of another once. Maybe someone out there can share a picture of their F120 or King Bee.

This one has a JM Soft kit in it with a sweet 2 stage trigger. I put the Beeman Peep on it with the Beeman rear sight plate. I prefer a Peep over open sights. ..always have. IMO the factory rear sights leave something to be desired. These rifles deserve the upgrade.

The hours flew by as we took turns shooting the rifles and talking. It's amazing how therapeutic time spent enjoying your friends and our great hobby can be. Life's pressures disappear for a while. All that matters is making that next shot a bullseye.

It was a great afternoon with the King Bee, the F120 and Mike. It is awesome that we live close enough to get to spend time with the guns and enjoy the hobby. He's as crazy about these old FWB 124's as I am. At least I know now that I'm not the only one. Lol

Wow, two rifles like that shooting at the same range at the same time is incredible. Absolutely gorgeous one of a kind rifles.

Check out the lines on the stock that I have on my 127. I’ve never seen one like it before until your picture.

I bought a 124 deluxe back in late 75, I was a young USAF officer with a baby on the way and drooled over those aftermarket stocks at ARH, but just could not justify it. Somewhere mine got scratched through that colored lacquer finisn on the beech stock so I carefully stripped it stained then spent a couple of months building an oil finish, That was probably 35+ years ago and it still looks good. I still sometimes think about those nicer stocks but am happy with the way this one looks.

ARH F120

Kingfishet, What is the description for the pictured rifle?

The ARH F120 was a special design rolled out by Robert Law from the original Air Rifle Headquarters back in the 1970s. He used a special tuned 124 aka...F12... and married it to a Custom stock made of Walnut. The result was the F120. Truly works of art and design. Robert Law set the stage for what years later evolved (Beeman stole the idea) into Beeman Customs.

I have two of these, I’ll put up a picture of the other one. I picked them up off GunBroker many years ago. “I will always buy a walnut stocked rifle, if the price is decent and it’s a model I like”, that was my motto for many years.

I will admit, I didn’t know what I had. I just knew they were cool Stocks, and unusual. And since they were on FWBs It was a no brainer to buy them.

I kept the 127 upstairs to shoot a bit today. We’ll see if I can do something worth posting.

thanks!
