Please Help! FX slug liners, other slug barrels, slugs and velocities

Hey guys, since the FX slug liners have come out, I have done a lot of slug testing with a bunch of different slugs, AONCO, Rat Sniper, and Griffin but mainly Varmint Knocker and Nielsen. More than 80 different slugs in .25 cal. between these two makers alone. Both Nick and Dale have been extremely generous in helping to find out which slugs shoot best, with what guns, at what velocities. I have a ton of data out of a 600mm liner and also a 700mm liner as well as my RAW with a LW barrel. However, all of this testing has been done with just three barrels. I’d like to compile more data. Any gun, caliber and slug combination will help me with more data.

I’d like, if any of you that are willing, if you would just share the gun, caliber, slug weight, meplat and base design, velocity and group size/yardage along with any other important information you think is pertinent...lubed vs. un-lubed, sized vs. standard diameter, stuff like that. Any information will help, so please share.

I’d like to compile all the data and share it so others can use it to help when tuning their gun. It will go a long way to shorten the learning curve for people new to testing slugs.

Thanks, and have a great weekend! Stoti

Sounds like a great Idea Stoti. I'd be curious as well to see what success or NOT everyone is seeing and how they are getting it. I'd be glad to help, just need to throw the 25 slug barrel kit back on the MKII. Dirty/clean/seasoned barrel would be another thing to ask probably. I've personally shot maybe 5 different slugs and so far I'm not too confident but I'll share what experience I have had.

Just finished up a conversion in .22 caliber having IMO stellar results thus far.

HW ( WEIHRAUCH ) 15mm 6 groove w/o choke at 24" length. * barrel is likely 20+ years old purchased at an AG show in Placerville this spring. Came from LD down by San Diego

being quite likely from the days when MAC1 was selling HW barrel blanks.

NSA 24.8 slug at .217 sizing shot at @ 980 fps

MOA or less for accuracy ... having not even bench shot it yet, but on a stool and shooting sticks hits time after time on a 3/4" spinner at 80 yards.

Hi stoti , I have a impact mk2 is has the 700mm barrel and port and probe enlarged, and the heavy slugs worked worked the best. I have shot the nsa36.2 from a little over 800-915fps ,after a major repair I retuned it to 900fps with the regulator set at 160bar. The gun shot great at all speeds and this tune the valve adjuster setting is at a little past 3 bars. I kept it at 900fps because I was trying to keep the recoil down at higher power it becomes hold sensitive, and as long as I follow through and firm consistent hold it shoots sub moa groups from 50-100yds I have kept the gun light as possible that makes jump a little more. I also have a red wolf 22cal this gun action is so fast it seems that the slugs or pellets are out of the barrel as soon as I touch the trigger, and the impact I can feel the hammer engaging and the slugs drag out the barrel that is why I have to have good follow through between the two guns it’s like comparing a flint lock to a modern firearm talking about the time between trigger pull to existing the barrel. The gun is shooting the 36.2 slugs so well that the last 400-600 shots have been slugs only and no adjustments to the gun and scope. I hope that this helps, but the setting description may be slightly different than your gun.

Yes the bearing surface on the slugs and the huge hollow point do cut the speed a bit. However none of the slugs with a tiny hollow point have shot well for me out of FX liners or my Lothar Walther barrel. The slugs more than make up for it in down range performance. Some of these slugs have a BC up around .09 to .160 That's 3x-5x that of a pellet!

Have a great day! Stoti

I've been shooting slugs a lot longer than FX has been making slug liners. So your heading didn't really grab my attention to read on.

This is a photo of an incomplete quick sample spreadsheet layout the way I usually do them. Just add what you really want. Probably more barrel info. - Brand, twist rate, length, etc.

The two guns and slugs listed are my two non-commercially available slugs. May not be of any value to your list. You can decide.

It's cool that you are willing to try to compile a list to help new "Sluggers" at least have a good starting point for their gun.

Thanks, long shot, I like that spread sheet. It's clear, concise and has everything I need to enter the proper data. I'm about done constantly slug testing for now. I'm approaching the 10.000 slug mark and want to just get back to shooting with my boys and having fun. Of course I'll still shoot slugs but no more constantly adjusting my guns regs. and HS back and forth, tuning, trying new things, sizing, lubing, etc... and just shooting paper at long distance. I have 9 and 12 year old sons that are getting bored with it a bit too. We're going to start hunting and plinking for fun a lot more and shooting paper a lot less! Thanks for the help!
