Planning to buy night vision. Need some advice

Those are cool do use green or red? i see they also have IR also.they look comparable to my IR and you don't have to pay in euros. until now i had not ever done euros..wasn't hard but also wasn't sure how it all worked.lol. when i was looking all i could find was t 20 and didn't think it would be enough light. good to know there is somewhere in the states you can get lights.

Hi Gumby31,
I use the red as per the company's suggestion red will not bother the critters as much as green or white.
In case you don't have the company's site here it is. https://elusivewildlife.com/?gclid=CO_9_pXrnNICFcJBhgodWk8DxA
My KILLLIGHT 100 is good for about 80 yards. You can see eyes out over 100 Yards. To identify and place your shot on a very dark night
I recommend about 80 yards max. They sell other models that will go out over 500 yards. I like mine and are completely satisfied.

I took an old Samsung Note 3 phone and removed the IR filter from the camera. While doing so, I screwed up the focus on the camera, but it does not matter, as I ordered 2 more cameras to give it another try. : ) The cameras are $6 bucks of eBay btw...Anyhow, the point is that I "successfully" turned a cell phone into a night vision camera. I can now either use an IR torch or use the IR light my security camera (Arlo) puts out...

To get a better idea of how to do this, take a look at this video.

thanks,

Kmd

p.s. That is NOT me in that video. : )

It is good to see others night hunting. Have you put any thought into what you might get? I also was going to go "real night vision" just could not afford it. Some day the price may come down till then got to use what i got. 2500- 5500 that is a lot of cheese, but the biggest part for me was couldn't see one or touch look though one. saw some stuff on line but wasn't reassuring enough. lots of "fluff" good luck, post up what you get here, would love to see it.

I agree... the "good" night vision scopes are just too much money. I mean, it is all relative, right?! I do not mind spending 5k on a MTB or a Drone, but not on a scope. Especially not when you can get something like the ATN X-Sight II for $600 bucks. From my understanding, it should work just fine for what I do... I also like the idea of the NiteSite. Eventually, it is nothing more than a baby monitor that allows to record. That is why I cant wait to try my phone "night vision" conversion again. Like I said, I got it to see in the dark, but the focus is totally off. I can see closeup but not far.

Lets see what route I am going to go.

"Gumby31"MTB? you say that. I think.

Isn't the night sight about the same thing as what i am running? Through the scope camera with a DVR monitor? I have not done any research on them. What do they cost? You have got me curious. Did I missed the boat? Google here I come.
Damn! That is a nice bike! Really nice bike. Someone I knew had one and he swore by it. : )

I am not too familiar with what you are running, but from what I can tell, YES, your setup is somewhat the same as the NiteSite. The NiteSite costs around $349. I am not sure if the monitor is included, or if you have to use your Smartphone...

If the monitor is included in that price, I would consider that a pretty good deal...

I still have a few older GoPro lying around and I might try that route as well. In case one does not have a GoPro, you can get a nice GoPro 3 Black for $100 - 150 bucks used. The LCD pacpac is around $35 bucks. You could of course use an external mini monitor, but why?! The LCD pacpac works great! If you go the GoPro route, you need to replace the lens with an Infrared lens. You get those for around $30 - 40 bucks from China. Really easy to replace too. Now you have to find a way to mount the GoPro to the scope though... Not sure how much that would cost, but I once build a mount for $10 bucks or so...

Total +/- $160 - 200 bucks. Not bad I would say, considering that a GoPro "should" have a way better picture quality than a pinhole camera.

I like this setup here as well... The reason for that is, that you can replace the lens on the GoPro (like I mentioned above) and that will turn it into a "night vision" scope. The other thing I like about that setup is, that you can still use the scope the way it is intended to... you look through it and not through a monitor!

EDIT: That damn system is over $1100 bucks?! Are they insane or what?!

Here is what I found so far they do record. Don't know the format, but it is the light, camera, monitor two different batteries to choose from. 3 different price points Eagle, 1500-2000 bucks Wolf, 700-1200 Viper, 600-800 all seem to be standard deff. (but can't confirm might take an email) based on the videos i saw. doesn't look to be HD.Seems to be camera is the same in all of them. The light and monitor are in one housing that is the price difference. Bigger monitor and more lights.

I was going to do some more research on the NiteSite as well, but got distracted watching Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, ha ha. Seriously. Anyhow, I have a few more questions about the NiteSite, so I guess an email to them is the only way to go...

The more I think about, the EagleEye is a nice idea, but just too expensive for what you get. I have no idea why a view two-way mirrors and a plastic case cost that much??? Especially considering that you still need a GoPro AND that it cannot film at night. Unless of course you convert your GoPro.

Speaking of two-way mirror... You can get some from eBay for $5 bucks... They call them surveillance mirror... I might get those and have someone 3D print me the case...
