Place to Shoot

Hello I'm new here I apologize if this topic is posted in the wrong place. I live in the southern part of King Co.in Washington State, I just purchased an Air Rifle (Gamo Fusion Mach 1) and was wondering if anyone would share a place hopefully locally where I can go to shoot it. There are a few indoor Ranges around where I live but my favorite is just throwing a tin can on the ground and shooting at it. Unfortunately my back yard isn't user friendly for that purpose, any help finding a decent spot would be appreciated.

Thanks Rod

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Western WA is definitely not a target shooting-friendly place. You'll also find that people have been driven off of public lands for shooting in most (all?) areas, and have become secretive (for good reasons) about their spots, which are generally far outside of King.

Also, I would highly advise you to get a legal target to shoot at. You can get reusable ground targets pretty cheap. Part of the reason (but not entirely) that target shooting has been banned everywhere, is people do not clean up after themselves. The law enforcement / rangers will gladly hand out $1000+ fines for shooting at illegal targets.

I guess no longer ORE-GUN but ORE-GONE...

I call it Your-gone and I call Portlandia Pornland cuz we are usually in the top ten in naked bars, and pic shops per capita in the US. Not a good thing for keeping things weird as people so often say.

Like I said I be moving soon as I can get my place fixed up enough to sell. Rioters and creeps doing bad things everywhere and the cops are not allowed to do anything about it. Taggers everywhere now that they just pick them up and release them or just don't bother at all. A once wonderful place completely ruined. ;^(

" Legal Targets" are you referring to pellet traps?

No. “Legal Targets” refers to commercially made or “approved” shooting targets.

On public lands where you are allowed to shoot, sometimes you are only allowed to shoot at self healing ground targets (things made to be shot at), steel plates (made to be shot at), paper targets on stands, or only certain “approved” targets.

Because people refuse to be responsible and clean up after themselves after shooting shootIng things like cans, bottles, TVs, propane tanks, cinder blocks, old water heaters, cars, tires, bowling trophies, that god damned Nordic track that no one ever uses, etc. many public shooting areas have outlawed their use as “targets”

Best of luck finding a place to shoot HotRod. Building a pellet trap seems like it may be your best bet or that’s what I would do.

It is a shame the way the “progressives” have swayed the way a lot of people feel about guns, whether an air rifle or a Barrett .50 cal. I am fine if some folks don’t like guns. I like guns. No, I love guns. I don’t brow beat folks that don’t like guns but by the same token, I don’t think they have the right to look at me like some barbarian because I like to hunt and have guns for personal protection.

Sorry for going off on a tangent there, so best of luck to you on your shooting situation.

This

Call the ranger station and ask. Call local police and ask. Build a bullet trap for $20, a hinged plastic box, cut the end out. Fill with rubber mulch.

The ranger station will not help recreational target shooters in finding legal shooting locations, unless there are areas that have been designated specifically for target shooting.

You don't have to move to another state. Freedom doesn't mean that you have the right to shoot on public land. Surely there are many farms and ranches near your house that have acreage. Introduce yourself to every farmer or rancher in the area. Tell them that you are having trouble finding a place to shoot. Show them you Kit. Let them shoot it. Let them know that you only need so many yards, that you have your own pellet trap. Volunteer to help out. Offer to take out some pests. You can find a place to shoot. Respect their property, help out when you can, and close the gates behind you.

This sounds like the best approach.
