Pit Bull Carbine

Aloha All,

Anyone has any experience with Pit Bull airguns? Interested in the cut down carbine version. Wondered if this Beast can be tamed with an Emperor? Thirty inches overall would make a sweet compact hunting gun but I’d imagine the short barrel would have A Lot of bark! Wondering if this gun can be made BYF? Also wondering how hold sensitive it would be?

Just so we are all on the same sheet of music, are you speaking of Pitbull Airguns, which upgrades/modifies Benjamin Bulldog Air rifles? If so, he makes moderators which already do a rather good job of eliminating the bark. I am speaking from experience here.

Mahalo for the input!

Addertooth Yes Pit Bull airguns are the guns I’m looking at. They make make an innovative moderator to keep the lines flowing and a pretty effective moderator. The version I’m interested in the barrel/rail is cut back to the air tube. I’d need to run a Ronin/Emperor type moderator. However I see on their site that they are starting to make custom moderators. Thanks for the suggestions!

Spysir Yes almost double the price! Yikes! From what I’ve read the Bulldog seems to be a pretty good buy. Solid platform and slings lead pretty accurately. Right now I’m having Fun researching guns and picking everyone’s brain. I’m interested in finding a compact, accurate, and quiet air hunter. A Bullpup IS the answer but wonder if there is something else out there? Looking for a near “silent” rifle to take down pigs where a shot might be in the wee hours in the morning.

Thanks for reminding me to use the search function. I try to as much as possible but maybe my search-fu is weak. There is a Ton of info on the Bulldog but little info on a carbine version.

Aloha

Note that if you already have a Bulldog they sell the conversion kit for all four versions. See the home page on their website.

Also, there is machining work for that price in opening up the valve and TP and barrel plus polishing/tuning the trigger which is work I don't do and was glad to let them professionally handle it.

Or just buy the moderator separately and install it yourself.

I've got a Mega so it does not have the extended air tube because I needed the quietest backyard friendly...

But if you just need quiet and more shot counts the long moderator and extended tube is very nice. It is actually Benjamin Pioneer Airbow hardware.

I have gotten VERY good customer service from them!

I was just looking on the Pitbull Airgun site at the Long Moderator for the Bulldog, seems I’m regretting selling my Bulldog last year and now I just ordered a camo one to replace it and I would like to quiet it down a tad and the Long Moderator will just bolt on and should do the job for me. I just found 357 bulldog mags for 8.98 so I need to order a few of those also.

Aloha Imold,

Been following your threads on your soon to be gotten Bulldog. Know you already owned one but can’t wait to hear your thoughts/reviews on the gun! Was close to buying one on Black Friday and had it in my cart but held off because of air problems (trying to get my tank filled locally). But as luck would have it, I ran into a friend at a local Black Friday Sale and found out he has a compressor! Also owns a few PCP’s!

Mmmmm maybe a Bulldog is possibly in my future!

Once I get it all set up I’ll do some shooting with JSB 81.02’s and run them thru the chrono as a base number and let ya know how I like it and post a pic or two. I will also get chrono numbers with the NSA 110 hp’s and the 127gr Hunter Supply slugs. Time wise it all depends on what happens tomorrow morning.

I liked the Bulldog once I got past the looks of it in black and it did have that twang/ping sound and it was loud but not to bad, after I sold it I started seeing threads about a guy who was making a Moderator for it but it was just getting started and well now it’s called Pitbull Airguns and they have come a long way in developing items for the Bulldog that make it a lot better so I thought why not I miss my Bulldog plus I can get it in Realtree which makes it look way nicer and with a LDC and a DePinger I bet it would be A nice shooter now and I already knew it was accurate plus since I sold mine I’ve also acquired a AV compressor and a couple big air tanks so air isn’t a issue anymore. I like the fact that it’s a 200 bar fill and I have a small 90ci AV tank thats regulated at 2900psi and I can tether it directly to the Bulldog and shoot away. Yes I’m excited for it to get here.

Hopefully my Cardioversion goes good tomorrow morning and they get me out of AFIB so they can then decide what they want to do about the bad lead in my pacemaker but I’m also looking forward to Thursday being that’s when the Bulldog should be here and the parts I ordered for the Pitbull should be here also, I did order 50 rounds of 110gr hp’s from NSA to try also and I found a place that had mags for 8.29 each so I ordered a couple of those.

Jim,

Hey Brahdah Jim,

PRAYING all goes well tomorrow!

A couple of nights ago I watched a boar and two sows through my newly acquired Night Owl (This site is costing me money! HaHa) The sows moseyed up to some avocados I laid out but the boar kept his distance. Sows were within twenty five yards but the boar wouldn’t come any closer than 40. Didn’t feel comfortable taking a 40 plus yard shot with the Cricket. I know the gun is a capable BUT didn’t want to risk wounding the boar and having to track him 2:00 in the morning. These old bones aren’t what they once were....

The more I read about the Bulldog I think it would have anchored the boar at that distance. Having an accurate Big Bore AND “hushed” is a BIG PLUS! ESPECIALLY at 2:00 in the morning! 😂 200 bar fill is icing on the cake!

Aloha

Untill I get my Bulldog in my hands and get the LDC and DePinger kit put in I have no idea how it’s going to shoot but I’ll find out quickly when I get it on the bench and start shooting. I’m sure it will be a ringer at least out to 60 yards and I do have a good Supply of ammo to tryout at least what I want to shoot with it. Here are the rounds I’ll test out in the Bulldog plus the 110gr I’m getting from NSA, the 170’s I got for my Texan .357 but I might give them a try in the Bulldog also.

Starting to get nervous for tomorrow even tho it should be fine but I’ll probably be up all night tonight, guess the biggest issue and concern is the pacemaker so the Heart Surgeon needs to be there Incase something goes wrong with the pacemaker when they shock me and restart my heart. Can’t wait to see what not being in AFIB feels like if this works on me.

Ill just be thinking about the Bulldog while they do there thing and put me under.

I thought of the carbine myself. I have the Pitbull in Camo and a stock black bulldog. I would regulate no matter what platform you choose. If you drill it out it can get real loud depending on how your hammer spring is set. I have the mega moderator but it’s drilled thru for the extended tube and think it’s defeating the purpose so the long moderator may do better. I had my tuned by Matt for 10 shots with the aeromagnun devoatators 128gr. Reg was set 2400. I changed reg to 2750, If I back off the hammer two turns I get 35 shots on a fill pushing JSBs 950ish if I tighten it 2 turns in 1150 to 1200 but my spread opens up and it’s real loud but oldass men still want to have fun sometimes. It’s a great gun to play with or hunt anything & everything. I got the Chinese compressor with the auto set pressure stop for 330 shipped but if I had to do it over I would of got the regular one for 200 so if it breaks it feels 130 less :)

Was shooting my Pitbull with my new custom bullets

Here are the first cast Accurate 36-168Js as described in the original post on GTA > Darkside > Big Bore > The Search for Accuracy Part Deux
With the HP they cast 154 grain and drop off the pin easily, Ohlen mold hollowpointing did a great job!

PSI FPS FPE
2900 744 189
2750 792 214
2625 844 243
2500 849 246
2400 840 241
2200 822 231
2000 790 213
Note that my gauge on the gun is hard for me to read pressures exactly... next time I am going to take a magnifying glass, haha.

I was shooting at 50 yards and got mostly 1" groups with 3 to 4 shots inside 1/2" and no serious fliers so these are promising. And I will be going to a range with 200 yards next week to try at 100 and 200. Obviously it would be better to fill to 2700 and get four good hunting shots. These are going to be awesome on both Texas hogs and deer.

I decided to try the JSAR SS valve in my Pitbull Mega and iI a getting 959 FPS with a 128gr first shot.

Still tuning and changing springs though so even that might get better.

959, 915, 877, 799 with cut down Bulldog spring

943, 940, 919, 892, 870, 840 with SS provided spring

Ya'think I might be changing back to the SS? Haha

I just bought a Slayer but if I had not I was going to put the JSAR titanium air tube on the Pitbull so II could fill to 4k and have the regulator set at 3200 for 950 FPS for 4 or 5 shots
