A quick question...I understand the .22 cal reference and the tripod (bipod?) looks substantial so I think I get your drift on those two items, but what is the significance of the scope being high above the barrel?

Ditto. Have you looked at the scope height on just about any Impact? Higher than the one on Nicolay's gun. I'm also a little confused over the .22 caliber and bipod comments. The RD Monsters actually have a better BC than the .30 caliber 44.75 JSB, so no disadvantage to .22 caliber. Plus the bipod looks pretty awesome to me, I'd like one…

FYI, this must have been a photo from a practice round, since he is tethered in the photo, and that's against the rules in competition.

Sorry couldn’t help myself! 😉 Plus I agree with the.22 shot a.30 at PACup Should have shot the RW...

I'm assuming that was when Nicolay was practicing??? because he's shooting tethered there, right?

I "see" a friggen solidly built air rifle that doesn't have a stupid regulator to fail at the worst possible time (I Had that happen)! Look how thick that receiver and barrel is, that's how a PCP built for target or benchrest should be!

F-class style bipod.

50x scope

Like in nomojo's photo, the intent of having the scope that high is to have the face off the stock and usually these set ups are free recoil so the butt of the stock won't touch the shoulder pocket.

IMO, so far PCP's are not accurate enough to warrant the free recoil set up but it can't hurt either.

We can't discount Nicolay, he has, and is, the "whole package". I bet the money, time, and tune, he has put into this "package" is much more than we even realize!

Yes, that is my favorite PCP of any I've seen so far, and by far!

Yes I was having a little fun there! With a rail mounted that high off the barrel for a airgun you would probably need about 50 MOA cant? Most Airgunners don’t practice free recoil style shooting, but all most all air rifle BR guys do, including me, the only thing that touches the gun is literally my trigger finger! (of course airguns don’t really recoil much!) but it’s still Important to make sure the gun tracks the same every time with adjustments etc. just as a added point that’s one of many reasons why I love the Thomas BR rear buttstock bag rest, but the truth of it all “IT’S NOT WHAT YOU SHOOT BUT HOW YOU SHOOT IT!”

yes ..sorry I thought it looked high but center cut comment.. had me look at my impact and its high as well..so my bad

but his effort is impressive..and that rifle beating 30 calipers in wind is amazing for the fact. I like competition myself and want to give it a try.

I'm still confused over your comment about .22 beating all the .30 calibers "in the wind". Why is that amazing? Yes, his gun and tune were very good, and his shooting was also very good, but why do you think the feat was so much more impressive with a .22 caliber gun compared to a .30 caliber gun? I think you may be under the impression that he was at some sort of disadvantage and despite that he beat the .30 caliber guns? Unfortunately, there is no ballistic advantage to shooting the .30 over the .22 RD Monster, which is what Nicolay shot in the EBR.

I assumed from all the reading..the calipers have been going up not down..in 2017 was it not a 25cal crown that won ..30 cal at rocky mt won..I figured at the bench rest in AZ the wind got to be hard ..a those 30 cal Safari would bring it..just surprised me a 22 won...I do understand that Ken hicks was very close..nothing more.

And congrats to you Centercut..sportmens winner...next year PRO?

Yep, shooting Pro at RMAC and PAC also. Not that big of a deal, if I'd have shot Pro at EBR I would have finished 5th out of the 25 Pro finalists.

Just FYI, there is no advantage ballistically to using the .30, .25 Heavy, or .22 RD Monster. All three have a BC that is approximately the same, so that means the wind performance is approximately the same. The new Daystate Safari in .30 does have an advantage in the wind since it shoots the 50.1 grain pellets accurately, and they have a superior BC. The wind at EBR was much less than the wind at RMAC, and in fact in the finals the wind was a light breeze, not much at all. I thought it was pretty easy to read.

Ken came in second, but it was a 4 point difference between him and first place, so not that close. One or two point is close, 4 not so much.
