Picatinny Rail Mount onto Cricket Wood Stock Question

Here is what I use. Some people just use wood screws but Ive heard of the wood stocks cracking if there is any accidental sideways torque on the rail. I used a spade bit and flush the back for the t-nut. Being a gun builder I have never had a stock crack with these. It sandwiches the wood versus stressing the wood by the threads. Im sure others will give other opinions but this is what I use on several wood stocks, to include both my Crickets, and I abuse mine.

PS: I file 3/4 of the tabs off. Only takes a minute and you only need enough to hold the nut till the screw compresses it in place. My True Value had all the screws and nuts. Im sure HD or Lowes probably does.

Stop!! I just got home and double checked my Crickets. I thought I used the T-Nuts on them. I didnt !!! I used stainless steel threaded nut inserts on the Crickets and the same Button screws. I used the t-nuts on a thicker smoke pole stock. Here is what I used. Sorry about that, I was preparing for a trial at the same time I was typing that. Dont want to give you the wrong info. I also used a dab of epoxy. I drilled, set the inserts to the right depth to get the treads into the wood. Then removed them and coated the hole with epoxy before the final setting. Make sure you get the stainless threaded screws with the Allen head like the one pictured. The brass flat head slot ones are for soft wood and they snap. Real pain in the butt.

No I don't, Im surprised they don't have them. I always go to True Value because mine has a large specialty fastener section. They are all over ebay. If all you can find is brass thread inserts with slot head you can still use them, without braking them, by screwing the button head onto it and then using the button head hex to drive the whole thing into the wood. If you cant find the stuff shot me a PM. I think I have two or three extra sets. I always get extra when I buy. I can drop a set in an envelope.

I just used wood screws, and has not moved yet.....this was awhile ago.
