Pest control at the feeder, FWB 300S 15 yrd

I like to set on my front porch and watch the cardinals and other nice birds. well then the starlings show up and run all of them off. Enough of that junk. Got out the FWB300S, killed 2 starlings and a sparrow, trying to kill the third starling, he's wise to me cause i missed him yesterday. I get up and pick the rifle up and he's gone.i'll get him it's just a matter of time.lol

Dave, I live in Delaware and we have plenty of starlings, pigeons and house sparrows and we can shoot them anytime. But get this, because we don’t have many collared doves YET we’re not allowed to shoot them. So I guess they want to wait till they are everywhere in Delaware before we can shoot them year round. Why not be proactive and allow us to keep the numbers down?

Btw, I go to local farms to shoot the pigeons and starlings. The farmers like it! Maybe you might get that opportunity too?

You might check your State and local Regulations

Indiana reg. states:
American crows, brown-headed cowbirds, common grackles, red-winged blackbirds and Brewer's blackbirds can be taken without a permit if the birds are committing or about to commit depredations upon ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock or wildlife, or are concentrated in numbers and in a manner that constitutes a health hazard or nuisance as provided under 50 CFR 16 (federal law). Be sure to check local ordinances prior to using pyrotechnics or firearms.

_Life cycle of a Cowbird_
Cowbirds are brood parasites, laying eggs in the nests of other birds to be raised by the host parents. Female cowbirds locate nests of other birds and lay eggs singly by those of the host. The baby cowbird hatches first and grows fast, monopolizing the care of its foster parents, getting more food and often leading to the death of its nest mates—sometimes smothering them or pushing them out of the nest. Once grown, they join passing cowbird flocks. The host parents must try another brood.

Do the songbirds a favor

Well I went back into South Carolina DNR, And went deep. Found out you can get a state depredation permit free with your hunting licence, to take gray, fox, red squires, year round. pigeons, starlings, sparrows, cowbirds if they are causing damage to property or live stock. It also said you can use an air rifle on squires. I have to call DNR to get the depredation permit, so I'll ask about air rifles for the other pest. wish me luck they will say it's okay. Dave
