Personal best X count on 250 Bench Rest card

With the weather a bit sketchy i shot indoor 25yard Bench.Rest instead of practicing Field target outside. Glad I did because I shot my personal best Bench Rest card a 250 with 21 X's. I used my RAW HM 1000 .20 aka BLUE BEAST to do it. It's setup for Field Target open class but it's good to know it shoots so consistently well.

Gee wizz K, remind me to stay the hell away from Sherwood if you are planning to shoot.......

Actually it's the 3 hour drive that keeps me away, I would love to see the Beast in person.

Outstanding card man, Congrats on the synchrony that you have developed with that rig!

Thankyou Chuck....perhaps I just got the right tin of pellets and the stars and moon lined up just right...who knows. But it is a great shooting rifle and very consistent. Followed up this card with a 250 and 14 X's shooting really fast because we were about to leave.

The guys down at Sherwood are a great bunch of guys and the comraderie is awesome....anyone would do anything down there to help someone out without even thinking twice about it. Perhaps one day you can make it to one of their matches if you have the time and I would certainly let you shoot the Beast!

Defiantly something special about that rifle that is for certain!! Four of us in the club have shot 250's with high X counts first time shooting it while never having been able to do it with our own high end rigs. We also have another RAW (built by Martin) not" Air Force" rifle in our club that is just as easy to shoot 250's with that some of us have had the same experience with ! Can't put our finger on why but it is but they sure do shoot were you point them with NO unexplained shots!! I had one of the new RAW / AIRFORCE rifles in .25 Cal. for a very short time and it was not the build quality of one Martin built when he was calling the shots by any means. Sad fact but that's the way it is!! J.L.

I plan on making it to one of the shoots at Sherwood eventually. It figures that when I have oodles of free time, the whole state is shut down.....

One or two of the guys from Baker Airguns have been up there to shoot with you guys and said that it was a good time. Donnie and Dennis shoot at Wyandot as well, and I also hope to make it to those shoots eventually.

I'm going to try waving the dead chicken counter clockwise over my TM1000 next time and see if I can muster up the consistency that the Beast displays........ rabbit feet in both pockets etc.....

J.L., you shoot a RedWolf, correct?

If that's you, I have seen the match results and Donnie Reed told me that you guys DO NOT play around on the target frames! Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Walters were tough competitors rumor has it.

Be Well guys.

Chuck, I also shoot FT at Wyandot and central Ohio ocassionally when my work schedule allows. I'm sure our paths will cross sooner or later. Whitefox( Jeff Little) shoots a Midnight Red Wolf for Field Target and is a great competitor. I shoot a Thomas for FT and they are wonderful rifles. I do think in .20 the pellets are way more consistent than the crapshoot you get with .177 pellets. Perhaps that's why the Beast is so consistent. Whatever it is I'm just glad I got that rifle!

BTW I go by Keith not Mr Walters 😉👍

Sincerely,

KeithWalters

I kinda figured from his post that J.L. was Jeff.

I was being properly respectful with the Mr. designations until instructed that familiarity was acceptable! ;)

I talk to Donnie Reed from the Baker store fairly regularly, and he forewarned me that there were some serious shooters that could show up on the circuit at any given time, and he was talking about yourself, Bill, Jeff, Tyler and the likes. Is there anything to do with air rifles that Bill does not excel at? Geeminy that guy puts in some work, and some scores.

Best

Just outside of Troy Ohio, specifically immediately south of Casstown.

Hi Chuck!! "J.L." is that old bastard Jeff Little from McMurray Pa. Glad to know you!! Hope our paths cross one of these days soon!! Hope you make it to Sherwood one day soon!! and YES I shoot a blue /Red Wolf great field target gun but I can't say it is much of a bench rifle so far as I can tell so far. I have tried everything I can think of to make it one but i get several unexplained shots (fliers if you will) and I sort/weight and head size pellets, I have made a bag rider, tried different rests, styles of shooting, trigger settings, different moderators, no moderator, polished the barrel, you name it I have tried it!! No way shape or form will it shoot like Keith's or Ron's RAW's I even bought the $400. tuner and tried different speeds and Ft. Lb. settings always with the same result!! Even made a shooting bench with a vice and a jig to hold the barreled action and tried various pellets and settings, just not going to shoot 25 in the same hole the size of a pellet I guess so I have to accept the fact I guess and shoot it for Field target I so pose!! It's "Good but no cigar" as the saying goes!! Hope to get to shoot with you soon!! J.L

Whitefox, I feel your pain... so far I’m in the same boat! I’ve tried everything you have, the only thing left is maybe a programmer? I will just shoot it for fun!, maybe a occasional 50yd match? It’s a beautiful rifle and is so pleasant to shoot! I had such high hopes for it in unlimited class @ 50yds but it consistently drops one out of every 5 or 10 shot groups, conditions or not! I was singing it’s praises earlier on the forum thinking I could bring it around! but not quite good enough For usarb 50yd! But I still love thIs rifle!

NOMOJO65, Just found this as it was in my spam folder for some reason,Sorry!! So far I can say i would waste my money on a tuner as the only parameter I can find any info on as far as what you can do with it is adjust the speed. This is very odd as there are several other settings to play with in the programmer but really no info as of what they will do and how to do what available to us "common folk" and nothing I have yet to find on the web. When I was finally able to buy one as they were out of stock for a very long time I was basically told that they are set up perfectly from the factory why would you want to change it?? I just kinda laughed and said that I like to experiment and see if I can better all my rifles. It really kinda pissed me off as you can send it in and get it "fine tuned " to your spec/pellet for the same price as the tuner costs!!!😆 When I received mine it did shoot very well but it was not anywhere close to 20 ft/lb on the high setting and I shot it at that setting most of last season and did fairly well with it but I always felt that if I was closer to the peak speed and it still shot well I would have a bit more leeway at yardage estimates while shooting field Target matches. That being said I have upped the speed to the 20 ft/lb limit and it still shoots very well but no better consistency than before? I wish someone would do an article on using the tuner box for things other than just speed tuning. There are lots of articles on tuning the FX Impact but not much on the Red Wolf sorry to say. Can't really understand why, must be a black art secret!! Good luck with yours J.L.

Once the spring winds start calming down a little so I can get a handle on what the flags are telling me? (HA-HA!) I will shoot some 25m cards at 50yds and see what I come up with? 13.4RD’s on low power which seems to prefer, the 16.1 are close but not as consistent? And since this gun can only shoot in unlimited class I would much rather the 16’s we’ll see? I will post under the .177 RW topic
