Pellets seem hard to come by. Is it the 'rona or something else?

I just got back into airguns about 6 months ago. I live in Morgan County, Tennessee. I have 5 Walmart stores within 1.5 hours of me. (That's a normal one way trip to work sometimes when you're this rural.) Before 'rona my rifle was tolerating CPHP's. (7.9g) I got accustomed to paying a penny a piece for them but the last several tins were spiraling, etc. I emailed Crosman. They graciously sent me a couple tins of my choice. I chose the domed and hollow points in 10.5. Definitely better performance, but still not great.

So now none of my local retailers are carrying any pellets or are all out of stock. My local Ace Hardware had 1 (250 count) tin of Crosman premier wadcutters. (Not the match wadcutters) they performed well at 22 yards giving me .75 -1" groups. I can live with that out of an 880.

I would like to avoid paying 2-4 cents a piece for pellets. (Obviously I'm a tight ass lol.) Can anyone recommend a good source to order. I noticed most places selling the 500ct Crossman 10.5 online are $12! (5.99 at walmart locally) It appears I'm better off with wadcutters, but I have a question about the Crossman 1250 CT domes in the cardboard box. Are they really better pellets than the ones in the tins? I've found these avg $33 a box, with one place at $26.

What's your go to for budget minded decent pellets? Retail or Internet...

Thank you.

Well for my .22 my Crosman .22 Domed Ultra Magnum pellets for $8 are shaped really well, but I also do well with their HP. Alternatively, H&N’s are pretty reliable, but I just have a hard time using anything other than JSBs. Recently, however, I have had back luck with my JSBs and the skirts have been damaged on about 30%

Yes. One of the tins Crosman sent me was the domed Ultra Magnum. They weren't too bad. I've found out though even with a quality manufacturer such as JSB, etc, your going to get a bad batch here and there.

I believe it's Pyramid who does the buy 3 get one free? I need to crunch some numbers, but maybe that's the route I'll have to go in the future with some JSB or the like. I won't do anything for a couple days after I read some replies.

I probably will get a Tin of JSB. I'd like your opinion on what you recommend i try as far as the JSB. I shoot an 880 in .177. I looked at Pyramid a few minutes ago. And they actually have the 1250 milk cartons of the Crosman wadcutters I had success with. Haven't made a choice between the Match and Competition.

In plan on doing some testing. I get .75-1" groups at 22 yards with the Crosman wadcutters, and as I said I shoot an 880. If I get 2 or 3 times the accuracy out of JSB then maybe I will get more in the future. (They're 2-3X the price.) I dont see getting .25 - .5 inch groups with said rifle though. I have a total of $63 on my 880 and 3-9X Barska and am pretty happy with what I'm squeezing out of it. 4 tins of JSB costs more than my entire setup. I have shot 6700 Crosman pellets though. I guess that's about $75 I guess. Lol.

I can't justify the cost vs. accuracy increase though. Or lack there of. I can't see that rifle getting .25 or .5 inch groups at 22 yards even under perfect circumstances. This is why we do testing though. I may make a post if the results are interesting.

Yo and 2JZ - Yes they are hands down the cheapest for about anything Crosman. Both in store and online. I was shocked when I saw nearly double the price everywhere else. I just don't understand why there isn't a walmart within 100 miles of me (5 of them) with pellets of any kind in stock.

Yo- I have done the barrel tape and trigger mod already. As well as sealing barrel to breach. I Def had a leak there. Thanks for the tip on damaged skirts. I will definitely try that. Also thanks for the heads up about the price at Buds!

Biohahazardman- that's the same info I've read about the brown box Crosman. Thanks for backing it up. Definitely sounds to be true!

I only have about 75 of the wadcutters left and maybe the same in CPHP. I likely won't get anymore pellets in the mail till next Friday so, I'm already rationing lol. I usually shoot 25-50 a day. I guess I could do 5 of each. Provided my 880 will load them backwards. It's finicky even loading them forwards on occasion.

Jeff and OG over at Taofledermaus shot 12ga sized Diabolos backwards with surprising results.

they've also shot Crosman pointed destroyers backwards. No accuracy results though, just damage report essentially.

James over at All About Airguns (also has STKO channel) did this with CPHP. He referenced something about Hajimoto Saying Shooter1721 shot his pellets backwards. Idk what he was referencing though. (Prayers for Shooter 1721) IIRC he only fired 2 at 25 yards and 2 at 45. I don't care much for him or his testing and results, but he did make a go at it. I'll try it out. If not today, eventually when I have more pellets and provided I can get them to load backwards okay.

I am interested in the results. I trust Taofledermaus and his methods etc. 12 GA size and velocity is a whole different ballgame though. They've shot things rifled and unrifled, both with good results. I don't see that happening at the size of .177 and 600 fps. 650 at best out of my rifle I'd guess. BUT this is why we test things!

Have a great day Yo.

Three years ago these went back order for ever

I think I have a partial tin laying around somewhere. Not sure either of my 2 .22s are powerful enough to push them.
