Pellet testing my .25 Wildcat.

When I ordered my gun I asked what pellet most people liked for this gun I was told the JSB Exact 25.4 grain so I ordered one tin of those and the sampler pack from Straight Shooters with the gun. I decided to get out the chronograph and do some testing with my sampler pack. To start with I shot a string with the JSB Exact 25.4 Gr to get a base line I get 41 shots before the velocity starts dropping that is filling to 220 Bar. Groups at 30 Yds have been running from 1/4" to 1/2" average I think this could be better as I get used to this gun and make alterations for it to fit me better. I am shooting all of these test groups under the exact conditions very light to no wind outdoors.

Here is what that shot string looked like in columns of 8 you can see where the velocity starts dropping on the 42nd shot..

15) Beeman Kodiac Match 31.02 Gr too long for the gun.

This test is not exactly scientific but I was disappointed that some of the pellets obviously did not stabilize the overall target size was about 16" x 16" and several did not even consistently hit the target at all. I plan to do some more testing but I don't expect the outcome to change the JSB Exact 25.39 Gr shot way better but some of the heavy pellets showed promise. I am surprised 4 out of 15 of these pellets were too long for the gun. If the breach would have been made .050" wider all of these pellets would have fit. I can't believe FX did not make the breach wider or if this was a mistake in manufacturing.

Don't get me wrong I still like my gun but the safety could be better and the breach should except these longer pellets. I am guessing the pellets that did not stabilize where either under sized or something I plan to mic them all out in the future to try and figure out why they did not shoot. At one point I thought something was wrong with the gun and put the JSB Exact 25.39 Gr back in and it shot fine again.

These groups were shot on a less then ideal day at 43yds and I think There are at least 3 pellets that I would have no trouble using on a regular basis,I don't feel my .25 is pellet fussy IMO .

If you want to try Predator PolyMags's, you can clip the tip off of the red plastic end- the little sharp bit. Use an old toenail clipper.
I do that for my Hatsan Galatian and FX Gladiator. I've great results to 50 yards. I haven't had a chance to "paper" the pellets beyond 50- the JSB's are still the most accurate, but the Polymag's make nice holes in ground squirrel's. They still pass through on most shots, but the results when hitting them, are more obvious.
By that, I mean, destructive.
