Pellet Seating Problem

OK ya'll, for the FX experts here, I had time today to get out the new FX Wildcat and do some zeroing and target shooting. I'm using the JSB 25.4 and upon trying to chamber the first one I encountered resistance at the end of the stroke but could not get the cocking handle to close. SO, out came the cleaning rod to push the pellet back out. Noticed that the skirt was a little goobered up in the back by the probe, but not bad. In goes the magazine for a second try on a new pellet and this time the same thing happens but I push a little harder and still no go. Out comes the rod to push the second pellet back out but this one's skirt is FUBAR and I notice a dimple off center from the dome of the pellet. Pack everything up and head to the workbench where I commence to take off the barrel from the breech block. Inside the pellet probe I noticed something small and round, I thought it was grease of some sort, using a toothpick to pluck it out it rolls out...not grease but a half piece of rubber the size of a .177 pellet. This cannot cause a dimple on the head of the pellet, me thinks. I look down the brass chamber end and nothing nasty or pointy sticking out, BUT, I notice what seems to be a small o-ring sitting at the end of the chamber with a diameter of a .177 pellet. There is no way a .25 pellet will go through that hole. My .177 cleaning rod fits just right through with no up, down or lateral movement. Is there supposed to be an o-ring down there and if that is the case, could the wrong size have been installed at the factory? I took some pics but I guess our forum is having growing pains as I was getting back an error message and could not upload any. Any and all suggestions welcome.

I just tried to upload again Bob, but I get an error message. BTW, sorry about your rifle stock, real bummer. The bore is clear and so is the chamber except for the o-ring ( I'm guessing ) at the end of the brass insert of the barrel. Hawkeye, thanks but I already looked at that and is of no help, guess I'll attempt to remove this o-ring? There's one at the entrance of the brass chamber insert which is the probe seal and I can see what seems to be an o-ring with a smaller diameter hole at the end, way too small for a .25 pellet.

Here are pics mag sent me.

Ok, took out o-ring and was able to push a pellet down the bore. There is a groove in there and it looks to be the space between the leade & brass insert but I think the o-ring does not sit completely inside so it gets compressed down to a smaller diameter which is why it looked like .177, now outside sitting on the head of the pellet looks more like .22 and I used the calipers showing approx. .370 od and .225 id. Now for the next question...how in blazes do you get an o-ring inside there, assuming it does, without it wanting to tumble around and go down the bore?

TO get a barrel o-ring in place you put a wooden dowel in the muzzle all the way to the edge of the o-ring groove. This will stop the o-ring at that point and allow it to enter the groove.when you push it in the leade.

You know the old saying "measure twice cut once" well I say "remove once look twice". I figured out the elusive o-ring problem. I remember pulling the barrel liner over the weekend and running some patches through. I pulled it according to Steve's vid and I removed the o-rings around the barrel to dampen harmonics. One came out and another stayed inside but I pulled that one too. Apparently, there are 3 o-rings and when the liner went back in, it pushed the 3rd o-ring which was closest to the breech end and created the space between liner and brass insert. When I fished out the o-ring, the threaded plug at the muzzle end was loose and it was tight before...yeah, against the o-ring!! Doh!! It hit me then as no o-ring goes inside there, the liner sits flat against the face of the brass insert. No more groove upon further inspection because tilting the sleeve back caused the liner to fully seat and voila...thanks guys for the suggestions and Bob for posting the pics, much appreciated. Thanks BigTinBoat, but I tried that and failed because NO o-ring goes in there, LOL. Lesson learned fellas, besides, I like to tear into my guns anyways ;)

Well, there is supposed to be an O ring at the breech end, "inside" the brass piece. It seals around the probe when the bolt is closed. If you get a slight puff of air back at your face when shooting, it's not there, or is bad, and leaking. I partially blew the one in my Wildcat, by having 3 pellets stacked in, BY MISTAKE! Don't ask me how I did it! Was a bit of a pain to get the new one in, but I managed, using a cleaning rod to help support it while working it into the groove.
