PCP UPGRADE

Hello everyone. Airgun Nation is a wealth of information and although I normally just read everyone else's posts, I do have an important question I know I can get some help with. I have a couple of springers... a .22 cal. Beeman and a .30 cal. Hatsan. I also own a Hatsan AT44 long QE in .25 cal. My two boys have really gotten interested in airguns because we can shoot at our property behind the house (0-65yds) and they can shoot a lot. The boys (8 and 10 yrs) have a hard time cocking the springers so they have taken over my Hatsan and absolutely love shooting it. Because they're always using the PCP, I never get a chance to shoot it. I want to keep all of the guns we own for my boys to shoot and I want to buy a good quality PCP for myself.
I would like a PCP that is very accurate, fairly quiet, adjustable and in either .22 or .25 caliber. I would like to spend under $1000 but could spend an absolute maximum of about $1300 if necessary. I already have all the accessories, scopes. rings, bipods, etc.. so the money is just for the gun.
I am seriously looking at the newest model Brocock Bantam Hi Lite Soft Touch with moderator for $998.99. It looks like for $1000 it is going to be tough to find a gun that meets all of my requirements and costs less than $998.99. I also really like the FX Crown but it is over my budget unless I buy it used on the classified page.
Please give me your opinions on the two guns I am already looking at and also the best guns for my money that fill all of the requirements I listed above. Pretty much all of the guns I've looked at have been on either Pyramyd, Airgun Depot, Guns of Arizona, Utah airguns or Airgun Nation. I've read a lot and always try to keep myself aware of pros and cons as they relate to different airguns. I am not however, up to date and familiar with a lot of the airguns that are hard to get in the USA, are custom made or aren't sold by the major retailers.
Please give me your honest opinions and as many of the pros and cons as you can about each of the guns you recommend and the guns I am considering.

Thanks in advance. Kevin Stoughton

P.S. I have a Vortex Razor 5-20x50mm milliradian scope with sun shade, kill flash, vortex premium rings, a bubble level and everything that came with it from the retailer. I'm willing to sell for $1200 if anybody is interested.

I'd recommend the Bantam HiLite Soft Touch in .22 caliber, its $899 at AoA... Don't get the extra Reflex Moderator, it sucks. Spring a couple extra bucks for a DonnyFL Tatsu. You'll be glad you did... Screws right on the end of the shroud. If you get the Tatsu, get the .25 cal. model and not the .22. Almost no difference in sound, and much less chance of clipping.

I was also thinking in the Bantam but does anybody knows when are the Huma regulated versions going to be released to retailers, I think that's a much better option but we'll have to see the retail price on them.
The wildcat MKII is another option, last time I checked was around the 1300 USD mark, and it's a proven platform both in .22 and .25

Hope it helps, all the best Kevin

Alejandro

Thank you everybody. That's exactly the kind of information I was looking to get from you guys. I'm still watching so if there is anymore info, fire away, I'll be watching. I hadn't even really considered the Wildcat because I was looking for a bigger reservoir and I've been hung up on the Crown from FX. I'll do a little more research on it. As far as the Air Arms goes, I have looked at it, but honestly, I want a bigger reservoir. The tank size, moderator, velocity, ACCURACY and PRICE are really why I've been looking at the Brocock Bantam Hi Lite Soft Touch so seriously. Thank you Centercut, for the info on the stock moderator. I want a quiet gun and I was going to buy the moderator that comes with the Brocock. If I end up going with the Brocock, which looks like a distinct possibility, that's good information about the Donny FL Tatsu. I want the gun as quiet as possible! Thank you everyone! Kevin

If you can't spring for a Wildcat, try a Streamline. The Streamline synthetic comes in at $1000, is regulated, sporter style, has the FX trigger, smooth twist barrel, comes in .22 or .25, etc, etc, etc. Lots of high quality gun for the money.

Or wait a month and order a Dreamline. Base will start at around $1000, but I suspect the decent models will be $1300 or so.

Thanks. A couple more guns I really hadn't considered. I just watched the Airguns of Arizona video on the Streamline and it looks awesome too. I'm going to look into the Dreamline right now. I think maybe I opened a can of worms with these questions about upgrading my PCP... Now I'm going to have too many choices and probably spend more money than I should. Thank you. Kevin

If it where me you can’t beat the Kral jumbo. For under 600.00 that gun will shoot sub moa out 100 yrds. It has a bottle so you can shoot all day. It very competive with higher priced guns quiet wise.It has great potential for tune job for ver little money when your ready. It don’t have the glamor or trick of the week barrels, but it don’t have price tag.
Check Troys web site and videos at Annililator air gun.

Thanks, I had never even heard of the Tiapan Veteran. Looks like a great gun, I'm going to do some more research right now. Something I forgot to mention that does matter with some of the bullpup designs is that I'm a left hand shooter. Many of the bullpup designs have the cocking lever right where my cheek would rest. If it's not the most comfortable, I can deal with it, but if I can't cock it comfortably then it will be a deal breaker. I've shot right hand guns all my life, no big deal but I always have to make sure each particular gun works for me before I buy it. The Yaipan looks like it might give me problems. I guess I'll find out. Thank you for your imput. I appreciate it. Kevin

Brocock Bantam Hilite. I just bought one because I like my Compatto so much. You might get the current model, One of the Videos from the industry show earlier this year said the new one will be $1299. Mine is .177 but you can't go wrong with a .22. I usually shoot 60 -70 shots and then refill even though I haven't noticed any drop in impact. Great Rifles, go ahead and get one! your boys will like this one too.

Can 'O Worms - You bet

In years past, there were only a couple PCP's to choose from in each price category. Now days, there are so many in the $600 to $1000 range it seems ridiculous. I haven't seen one of the guns that would be a complete mistake. Some are just better than others.

We all have our own opinions about which gun will fit you best, (Yes, I am a bit of an FX fanboy, my Impact arrived today). Since you seem to know what you want out of a gun, my suggestion is that you just make a list of features, and find the most economical that has EVERYTHING you want. Don't scrimp, buy the best you can afford. It'll save money later when you get the urge to upgrade. It happens to all of us. I started out with a Marauder, and just upgraded to the Impact.

I will say one thing about bullpups. If the cocking lever is in the very back of the stock, don't. If the cocking lever is over the trigger where it's comfortable to get to, think about it.

Other than that, I really don't think you can make a mistake. Just make the best decision you can, pull the trigger and GO!

Good luck on this one.

That's funny...my boys will like it too. That's what I'm afraid of. I might have to buy two and then I'll finally get to shoot a PCP! For the price and what you get, it sure looks hard to beat. A 480cc carbon tank, great accuracy, very quiet, self regulated, slingshot hammer, great trigger and left hand friendly are what had me looking at it in the first place. I watched an Airguns of Arizona review and I was sold! One ragged 5 shot group at 20 yards and a 5 shot group covered by a dime at 50yds! I wanted to hear what everybody here had to say about all the various rifles but for $899 and another $100 for a custom moderator by Donny FL as recommended by Centercut, it really is hard to beat. Under $1000 is what I really wanted to spend. Of course after everybody gives their opinion and I start looking at $1300 guns, then $1400 guns and so on, I really like them and get excited. However, I wanted to spend under $1000 and I get everything I want and need in this gun. Unless someone posts some info on a showstopper I haven't thought of, I think the Brocock Hi Lite is the way for me to go. I just get so much for the money, it's hard to beat. Thanks for the imput, you kind of steered me in the direction I know I wanted to go, I just needed to hear it from a few other people on this forum. Of course I would love an FX Impact, Royal or Crown... or a Daystate for that matter. I just can't justify the price when I have a growing family. Thanks again, Kevin

Well said Saltlake58. I agree with everything you said, especially the cocking lever at the back of the gun part. I'm a lefty, which I forgot to mention. The reply above was to Skohl but it applies to what you just said perfectly. After reading all these responses, a couple guys helped steer me in the way I wanted to go. I just wanted to hear it from some others to help justify my feelings. Maybe later down the road I can give my boys the Hatsan and Brocock and get myself an FX Impact, Daystate or something else super awesome. Right now, it's not necessary or prudent and I'll be perfectly content with the Brocock. I shoot 1000yds., PRS and trap/skeet, I'm also an avid fly tier/fisherman and photographer. In other words, I have a lot of expensive hobbies and expensive equipment, I don"t need to spend more than $1000 right now. Thanks, Kevin
