PCP regrets or dissapointments

Can't say I have any regrets as of yet.. I have a FX Crown continuum that has lived up to and surpassed my expectations. And I have a bandit in 17 cal, and a 25 cal pp800 (essentially the same gun) that have far surpassed my expectations. Probably due to them being incredibly low, but still...

I'm in the midst of building a 1322 pcp, so we shall see.... 😂

#1 Air Arms S510 TC .25 cal.

The PCP is long -- 42 inches without after market LDC. It is loud, although the vendor/manufacturer rates the the gun at 2 for report (1 being the best).

The S510 leaves a lot to be desired in the power department. My .25 cal, although very accurate, tops out at 38 FPE.

#2 Daystate Regal XL .25 cal.

This PCP platform borders on excellence in .177 cal. The .177 is light, pinpoint accurate, ergonomic, with a shot count of 70+ in the unregulated, Harper slingshot hammer and valve system. The Minelli stock is gorgeous, an heirloom, no doubt.

I have read similar positives about the Daystate Regal in .22 cal.

However, this platform in .25 cal. is a bust. The shot count suffers due to the small cylinder and the gun is loud; louder than the AA S510 and not much more powerful. I imagine the .25 cal. Regal would work well as a hunting rifle based on the length, weight and accuracy for 5-6 shots.

Now for the PCP(s) that exceed expectation:

The Taipan Veteran .22 cal. Standard checks all the boxes!

I regret not buying more .177's and .22's instead of .25's, I simply don't need the power for the type of shooting I do, and I have always regretted not getting a laminate stock on one of my Wildcats. As for exceeding, have to agree about the Huntsman .177, I shoot it as much or more than any I have. Also the FX Streamline with it's 3 power settings and my "best trigger" I consider the perfect PCP, between the Streamline and Huntsman I've take the Streamline because of the adjustable power levels and laminate stock, glad I don't have to choose!

Regrets: As much as I love my single shot EDguns (.25 R5 SM and .22 R3 Long, plus gen1 .20 Lelya) I’d have to say I regret buying the EDGun R5M. Firstly, the indexing issue that I’ve written about on another post. Secondly, we couldn’t get it to be accurate with the Heavy pellets. With the Kings it was fine, but heavies not so much. With all the options out there in .25 repeaters, this was a big disappointment.
Exceeded expectations: .30 FX Bobcat Mk2. It never ceased to amaze me just how good this gun really is. Having come out in 2012, there hasn’t been a gun made yet that is more accurate or more efficient. It’s always spot on, easy to shoot, efficient and ACCURATE.

I've always had and have deep satisfaction with the .177 RAW rifles that I've bought. I've had a lot of rifles including .22s, 25, and 30s. The .177s are the most accurate. I can't say that I've really had a 22 that excited me. Accuracy in all of them was short of the mark, including some very high end guns. On the other hand, the 25s are superb. I think 22s are a disappointment.

I regret spending so much time and money on a janky ass marauder.

Cost me more than my dreamline did, in total, and no where near as much fun to shoot. I've punched myself in the eye way too many times trying to cock that too heavy hammer spring and slipping off the bolt!

Give me a sidelever any day!

=====================================================

Exceeds expectations is my taipan mutant .22. It make me smile every time I pick it up, and smile wider every time I shoot it. My dreamline is finally reaching that state as well, but it took some work to make it shoot as nicely and as ergonomically as I find the mutant.

Huben K1 (latest Gen) was told it was 223/556 its actually normal .22, had to take apart as soon as I got it because I crammed 223 slugs in the mag. It leaks, wont hold pressure longer than 2 days, no REAL support, no one to be held accountable, greatest waste of $1600.

Daystate wolverine2 HP R, Extremely extremely accurate, but... the regulator creeps. That, and its way too long. If I could do it over again wouldve taken the overall length into more consideration. Also its not very HP (high power) daystate models without the HP in its name shoot with more Ft lbs.

Biggest disappointment Marauder with a low shot count. AA S510 was accurate but was so long. I had two Regal XL’s and the rifles were accurate with great shot counts the bolts would pop up and I would get a face full of air. Will buy again when they go to side lever. As far as my favorites, my two impacts win. So accurate and fun to shoot. My wildcat and Royale 400 are also winners.

Regret; I have a hand pump graveyard in my closet. A lot of money on high end hand pumps that wouldn’t last, even after rebuilding. Lots of shooting and hand pumps are just a bad combo. If I could do it again from what know now, I would have went straight for the Omega Air Charger and a new 98 cu ft carbon fiber bottle. I have them now so, l guess you live and learn...

Regrets:

  1. Buying a $600 3-stage Chinese compressor / paper weight (destroyed itself within a month) before going American and getting Shoebox that hasn't let me down in almost 2 years and cost less.
  2. Taking a 15-year break from the hobby (it's tough when you live in a huge city with no where to shoot).
  3. Buying a bunch of $2-300 CO2 pellet pistols thinking at that cost they would be better than the $50 CO2 BB guns - that was a bit of a let down.
  4. Not buying an Edgun Leshiy sooner - that would have saved me several catch and release sales.
    [/LIST=1]

I really had to struggle to come up with the above regrets as I really enjoy the hobby and trying out different guns whether they be good, great or terrible.

I completely forgot to mention the Impact!

Man, the Crown really spoiled me. That's all there is to it. In my opinion, the Crown has perfect weight, near perfect balance. The trigger can be adjusted forwards or backwards. And I really love the transfer port wheel. Low has me at 650fps (perfect for short range .22 pesting/plinking) changing 1 click over to 30 cal port has me shooting 950 fps. Overall feel of the gun is nothing short of superb.

The Impact weighs more, is not well balanced, and doesn't have the quality of feel the Crown does. The trigger blade position is also not adjustable the way the Crown's is, and that really irked me. It even feels awkward to point. So, we parted ways. A very finely crafted piece of hardware. But not for me.

My only REGRET is that I can't figure out how to get my wife to work more overtime! I wish I could get her to work a few more than the 65 hours measly hours a week she puts in now,. That way she could give me more money to spend on my PCP addiction! LOL That's a joke for those of you who don't know me! I want too many new guns...Safari, Evol, Impact .35 cal., Raptor, Priest II, SK-19, etc..... Of course some of those are for my boys!

Seriously though, my first true regret is spending so much money on hand pumps and related equipment for pumping up my PCP's and then upgrading to a 3000psi scuba tank. I got it very cheap, but basically useless for a 250BAR gun. I use it for cascading now so it wasn't a total loss. Now, I would just start off with a 4500psi carbon tank and compressor.

My second regret is buying a sub par PCP with the money I'd saved up to that point instead of waiting another month or two and getting what I really wanted. I wanted to be shooting while I was saving so there was no way around it. Selling that gun cost me a lot of money. I know most of you have been in that situation!

My biggest surprise was a Brocock Bantam Hi Lite that I bought for my youngest son, Cooper. I had heard it was a great gun but it exceeded my expectations by far. It was light weight, comfortable, had a high shot count, was very accurate and quiet. WIth a moderator on it, it was quieter the my boy's play nerf guns, crazy! The trigger wasn't the greatest but certainly not bad either. This was before the regulated version but it still had a great shot count and was very consistent! It was just a super gun for the cost.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!\

Regret: My pcp rifles are so single hole accurate I find them to sometimes get boring (lol), especially in the cold winter months when I limited to my indoor range much more. I find myself shooting my springers much more, just to make it at least a little more challenging.

I truly enjoy them all and enjoy the great people I have become associated through this sport. No real regrets.

.22 Marauder Gen 2 was a disappointment for me. Liked how smooth the action felt & the quietness but TOTALLY let down in the accuracy department! Tried ALL manner of pellets, tuning, etc. but could never get the accuracy I'd heard of or read about. My Hatsan AT44, .22 was, however, NOT a disappointment. Nor were my BT65's in .22 & .25. Nothing I've ever shot compares to my Royale 500 & Boss. These two have never let me down. They check ALL THE BOXES for me.

My Wildcat mk1 .25 with Hugget moderator is hands down - no contest- my favorite. I bought it used and have never had to adjust, tweak, fix a leak or even clean the barrel (yeah, I know I'll have clean it at some point but not yet!). The previous owner never changed anything from factory settings either. Every time I pull the trigger it hits POA; first pellet to last / 25.4's or 33.9's. Absolutely love the WC. Really like my BSA R10 mk2 .22 also. I bought it during PA's closeout sale on them for a REALLY good price. I did have to give it some attention; tear down, clean, lube and tune. The results I got for my effort were soooo worth it. The R10 feels great, points instinctively and with 15.89's at 876fps puts 50 shots right where I want them. I only wish that it liked the 18 grain pellets as much as the 15.89's. My one regret is my Hatsan Nova .25. It's not that it is a bad rifle but it was not the rifle for me. Mine came with a bad barrel that took awhile for me to figure out. I did order a new barrel for it and that seems to have taken care of the accuracy issues it had. Thing is I got my Wildcat while I was waiting for the new barrel and the Nova has not seen much use since. Should have put the money for the Nova into a compressor and tank instead and have them earlier instead of later.
