Can anyone recommend one? When I shoot collared doves, I usually go out quickly to make sure I got a clean kill. Occasionally, one will require a follow up shot. A rifle with a scope is not ideal for this. Carrying a rifle in my open yard within the watch of neighbors is also not ideal, and can be difficult with a scope. I'm considering using a PCP pistol with a red dot sight to take a finishing shot at probably 10-15 feet.

a co2 would work to .. a chaser is real accurate, i was popping cherry tomatoes at 20-30' when i first got mine ..

Hello if you want a PCP pistol you can not go wrong with the Ataman AP16 compact but you will need a moderator(very loud without) just a suggestion Eric

Years ago I bought a PP700 for just that purpose. But of course I couldn’t keep my grubby mitts off it and I chopped the air tube, machined a shorter LW barrel and installed a Huma reg. It’s smaller and perfect now. You can see it lower right in the picture.

Here it is with a dot on it. Crazy thing is, the gun was so accurate that I had to switch to a small pistol scope. Since then I’ve shot more stuff than I’ve finished off with it.

I would go with a Crosman 2240XL and if you decide you want a PCP later on you can convert it to be one. This one has a threaded adapter on the barrel so you can add a moderator. Lego guns they are.

You can use the cheap Crosman rear sight, I'll send you one, and a set screw for the front sight or a cheap red dot would werq too.
I have a couple of Zoraki pistols and they would werq well also.

It isn't a PCP but my 1377 would work for this. I stopped shooting it at squirrels after a disappointing hit to the shoulder of one but I've used it to finish off a bird that flew into a window of my house and to shoot a couple snakes in the head. A 1322 would have a little more power. My Prod is a PCP and would work. I used to think it's ~85db was quiet but I'm spoiled now by my ~75db P35 (which isn't a pistol but is a nicely compact bullpup with plenty of power for small game).

A BB pistol would work....go simple,get a break barrel pellet pistol and be done with it....or yes a CO2 pistol,no reason to spend over $!00.

It sounds like you are shooting from inside the house. I would make sure a follow up shot is not needed before leaving your shooting position. If you are just talking about a bird that down but not dead then just pick it up and pull its head off. It may sound odd or cruel to those that have not been around hunting long, but I promise it it the quickest and most humane way of dispatching a wounded bird.
Edited to add:
Having an additional gun to dispatch the bird will just slow things down and you will find yourself trying to rush a shot while the bird is scrambling to get away. Get out there, pick it up and put it down.

Why do you need to do a "finishing shot" at 10 to 15 yards? For a finishing shot, in my backyard, I use either a Beeman P17 or a Crosman 1377 and do it point blank to be sure I finish the job. Sometimes (most often now) I simply take the Benjamin Fortitude Gen2 .177 (much more quiet) and use it if I need to finish off a pest. Still at point blank to be sure.

Although there are times I have to make a finishing shot, I try really hard to make sure the first shot does the job. Most of the time I don't need a finisher. If I start needing to use a finishing shot too often, I look at what I am doing wrong and practice to fix it. Usually it is simply lack of follow through, but it can also relate to trying to shoot too far and expect the accuracy I need/want/require.
I have trigger control pretty well worked out. It is all the other stuff that gives me fits at times. (smile)

I agree with @texasred, just make sure that first shot IS a kill shot. You don't mention at what yardage you're taking your shots. Going out to apply that coup de grâce with a pistol will present other issues. Your first shot should always be a kill. You said "I go out quickly to see if...?" At the shot, after a few kills you should know you've gotten a solid kill, without having to go out quickly... A pistol will help, but a solid kill shot helps more. Not a critique, just an observation.
As to your original question I have a pp700sa like some above have recommended. I've used mine as a mini carbine and have taken many, many rats and starlings with mine. I've never had to use it for finishing shot while using my rifle. Keep in mind that some of these pistols get quite long once you've added a moderator. They might not be as stealthy as you might think. That said, good luck in your quest.

It's going to depend a lot on how many shots you want. If it's not many, I would recommend a .25 pp800. Mine outputs 30-22fpe for 8 shots, but is modified. Mine is as accurate as I could ask for and only cost $155
