Pcp advantages?

Matt, then why even comment? There you go, you’re at it again. If you haven’t noticed, except for me on this one reply, no one anywhere ever acknowledges your comments. This OP here is asking a “why” type topic. Looking for feedback. How is this comment about “waste of breath” contributing at all to this topic? Maybe someone here thinks you’re just a waste of air- breathing air, that is.

Seems to me you’re just asking for a re- peat of what happened with you at the GTA.

IDK, man, maybe you get off on confrontation. But your MO is to disappear once your confronted.

So hey they have their advantages they have their disadvantages and they all have their purpose. Best to get two of everything. Lol

That being said I did just end up purchasing a CVA wolf for $210 it'll be shipped to my door. It's in stainless steel and 50 caliber. The problem is obviously I cannot shoot this in my basement range.

Sounds like you made the right decision. Big bore air rifles are fun, but your black powder rifle will be more lethal, and the cost/benefit ratio is much in its favor.

This type of question comes up a lot. It’s really not about power or how much less money a Firearm costs. In the end, it’s about passion. Plain & simple.

Why would you pay $7K for a bicycle when you can buy a motorcycle instead for probably less? Why would you pay $25K for a motorcycle when you can buy a car instead? The car is even much safer. The list can go on and on.

Airgunning is a passion and that’s why most of us do it. We may have gotten into it for other reasons like shooting squirrels in the yard without your neighbor knowing. But then something happened....

As for an instant kill, it’s no different than hunting deer with a long bow vs a compound or a crossbow etc, when you can drop one with a .700 Nitro Express. 😉

Ha. Why pay 7k for a bicycle. I did that when I got my mountain bike. Friends looked at me like I was crazy and told me I should of got a dirt bike. They just dont get it.

The only person that could one up me is if that person used a spear. The next person to one up the spear guy is if they used a knife. The next person would be if they used their hands. Bragging rights is what it comes down to

Agree infinitely. Everyone is certainly entitled to an opinion. But it seems that many think only THEIR opinion is valid.

Despite the carnage of the conversation, I'll get in a little late.

Advantages of a PCP in ANY caliber:

Over powder burners (PB) no cleaning. quiet, back yard friendly in smaller calibers, lower power so doesn't carry as far, etc. Still kills small rodents and makes nice holes in paper targets.

over break barrels, SSP (Single Stroke Pneumatics) and other airgun propulsion methods - ease of shooting. Load pellet, shoot. Big advantage over break barrels is the smooth firing cycle. Break barrel has too many parts flying all over the place, double recoil, and the rest. PCP, pull trigger, air is released, single recoil and properly suppressed gun is quiet, like a Marauder. Because shooting cycle is smoother, accuracy is better. Carrying air in a tank means you can have repeaters with bolt or lever actions for faster firing cycles.

After shooting PCP's, not going back to break barrels. I have two, probably never got used again.

More advantages, like many PCPs are adjustable so you get the performance YOU want. Regulated so you get consistent performance, and one could go on.

As they say, better late than never

Great summary about PCP's.

There are more pure hunting rifles that are PCP that you could get for a reasonable budget but with any PCP you will need additional money for the tank and charging but when you look at what you spend for a regular fire arm in maintenance, ammo, and more importantly the time you waste cleaning then you really should increase your budget a bit then it can be realistic.

Look at Quackenbush and others like them...starting at $605 for serious big bores but realistically you would end up spending more like a grand plus another grand for the air and take setup but in the long run it might be the same or less if you put a reasonable cost for your maintenance time saved...

No doubt some great points being brought up.

But guys after the smoke clears from my purpose I'm $210 in For a stainless steel barrel beauty. Should be arriving today.

I wish that one of the main advantages to even in the small bore PCP is the fact that now you've entered into the world of the auto repeater. No more one shot load one shot load. Although there are some PCP rifles out there they're like that one shot only.

I also understand the disadvantages of having a break barrel and having a break open at the point where it meets back up and then your scope maybe a little bit off because your Scopes actually mounted on something that doesn't move. I totally get that but I'll be honest in a quality rifle like every single one of the hatsans that I have it's never been an issue I don't get POi shift at all. I guess this would depend on the type of break barrel I'm sure the higher end ones like the weirrach or whatever they're called is going to be a lot better than say a Daisy.

Now my favorite is a bolt-action style recreation rifle. there was one that I looked at but the reviews mention that the accuracy was lesson par even though it was a gorgeous looking recreation. There's even some CO2 job that took cartridges you put the pellet in the cartridge that was kind of cool but again for my purpose I had to go into the PB.

To me they're all gas propelled projectiles. From blow dart to .50 BMG.

You're one upped by bow hunters, gotta get extremely close in comparison to pcp. Gotta make the shot count too because reloading isnt as easy as side lever follow ups.
