Packing my bags for Puerto Rico to shoot iguanas

I have my FX500 packed in my pelican case, a few other things in a small suitcase and will be flying out early tomorrow morning for PR. I mailed two of my carbon fiber bottles to Andy two weeks ago and he already has them so I am ready to go. I took my airgun to the airport just to speak with a TSA agent. I asked to speak with a supervisor just to be sure. I told him what I had and he quickly said no problem. Airguns aren’t considered firearms so you are good to go. I said this isn’t an ordinary airgun and I’d like you to look at it. Looking at the bottle he said what’s this? I told him that holds the air. He then said I will need to look in that bottle. That ended the conversation with TSA cause I’m not about to take that valve off so I decided to ship it through the post office.

I’ll be meeting up with other AN members, Monkeyshine & our host Puerto Rico (Andy).

Very cool, I've never seen this stock is this an early FX500 stock? I bet you're gonna smash them, I have the same gun. Best of luck and take lots of pics please.

PR.. the best chicken I ever had. Roadside store with rotisserie chicken.. amazingly good. I used to leave a 5 star hotel and drive to the roadside place to eat..So good. Not over seasoned with garlic and onion powder.. Love PR. Good folks..
hunting iguanas? Are they doing some type of crop damage? I can't recall seeing any while I was there..
hope u have a great trip!!
edit; holy crow.. I did a Google search.. man those things are invasive.. good luck and I hope you harvest a ton of them. Looks like a lot of fun.. Wow lucky man..

Brian, my wife and I were here once before iguanas and we saw the rain forest then. You are right.
Taz, still lots of work still need to be done but they are working everyday. Many stop lights still don’t work & traffic is slow.
Glem, this 500 is 4 or 5 years old but it came as a synthetic. AOA occasionally gets some reject stocks which they sell at a very discounted price. This is one of them. I do prefer it over the one I had.

Mark, Iguanas are not not native to PR & yes they do lots of crop damage. We are just doing our part! You know how it is...got to put food on the table. We are about to leave for our first hunt. Andy who lives here & speaks like a native has several permissions. Saw several iguanas in trees driving from the airport. They’re arboreal lizards after all.

They taste like a cross between frog legs and rattle snake . Just chop off the back legs and tail the rest is good for crab pots. You dump it into boiling salt water for 5 mimuts to loosen the skin for pealing. You can then use the meat in any of your favorite recipes I like it sautéed in olive oil with Italian sausage ,garlic, peppers and onions served over rice. One tip when you boil them to loosen they shink do it outside they smell like dirty socks.

So I’ve never met these guys before much less hunted with them and we get to the permission property and there are iguanas everywhere. Andy chooses a large one which just happens to range at 74 yards. He said ok Chuck you are up. Now the pressure is on. I’ve got to nail this shot. Well I had rather be lucky than good. Aim small hit small. Three of us shot 130 Iguanas from 7 yards to to 101 yards. These suckers are hard to kill. You must hit them just behind the eye and when you do they come flipping out of the tree. By the way, it is a pleasure to shoot with these guys. Robert (Monkeyshine) shoots a .25 cal Bobcat MKII. IAN shoots a Kalibrgun Cricket carbine ..22 cal 18 gr. (Crazyfrog) And yes I did make that first shot!

Little correction above, I shoot the .25 Bobcat MK1 unregulated with 34gr MKII pellets. As it turns out Chuck is a shooter (100y man). He makes the FX Royale sing, he has all his holds down to the .25". Another airgun nation member that is a gentleman and pleasure to hunt with and also learn his hunting tips. Third fellow Ian is also doing his part at very long ranges out to 99y. His Kaliber Gun .22 carbine shooting 18g pellets Huma regulated is doing its part magnificently . We are at 130 iguana down on a new permission 800 acre cattle farm today. We will see tomorrow's count going to help out an owner of a 200 acre root/sugar cane plantation.

I went to PR last year to hunt with Jim Walton. I have to say it was an amazing experience. We shot all day for 3 days and didn’t put a dent in them. Jim knew his way around the island so we never ran out of targets. I was amazed at how difficult it was to spot them at first. I suggest bringing a laser pointer that is strong enough to be seen in daylight. It will help your team all get focused on targets. Happy hunting.

Brian: we should always be careful when handling animals. These guys are so tough. Even their scales can cut you if you pick up one incorrectly while they are wiggling. I helped Texas A&M do a study at a feedlot to determine how many cows or birds might carry salmonella. Many of the cowbirds carried salmonella, a few pigeons but none of the collared dove carried it. I shot the birds for them. It was great fun cause I drove around the feedlot and shot about 35 birds. I had 2 A&M interns in the car & the were my bird boys.
