PA rabbit hunting locations

I live in Bedford County and don’t hunt anymore. If you find out where the state game lands are in your area ,Then just go there .I used to know a lot of farmers that let me hunt on their property. But people that don’t know you these days it’s harder to get them to let you hunt on Their Property. Never had much good luck in State game lands anyway.

I have fond memories of when I was a kid in Chambersburg PA hunting rabbits in the winter after a fresh snow. We had more snows back then. I would walk slowly along the edge of a wooded and brush cut with honey suckle and vines between fields and just look for orange snow spots. This is where the rabbits holes were and their urine stained the snow orange. Usually I would find a bunny sitting in front of the hole thinking he was safe and undetected. I had an old Sears Roebuck Crossman pump up .22 and it was deadly out to 30 yards with a .22 4X bushnel scope. I live in Carlisle now. We have so many owls and hawks around they keep the rabbit population down. Can’t remember the last time I have seen a rabbit cross the road at night. Again when I was a boy there were tons of small game hunters in the woods and fields and many would take out a hawk or owl and fox when possible . That helped keep up the pheasant, grouse, rabbit population even though it was illegal. Our state bird the Ruffed Grouse is very hard to find these days because of predation from hawks and owls according to the game commission.
