Having drop in LW barrel made @ JSA.  Looking @ DonnyFL for suitable unit.  Any experience with removing shroud and putting sumo on unshrouded barrel?

If necessary, i could cut shroud to length and put unit on end.  Any advice/ experience with this, also which mod do you suggest?

By the way, I'm wanting to swap mod between cricket and p15 as needed.  There could be issue of distance between air tube and barrel.

I read several posts about not eliminating the shroud but to keep it and to screw the moderator with an adaptor on — because both moderator and shroud are effective toghether.

DonnyFL in a personal email recommend getting the .25 for a .22 gun, as the difference in sound is very small and the slightly larger holes makes up for imperfections in the threading of the shroud.

DonnyFL has a P15 in .22 and recommended the SUMO as best value/size.

Can't tell you from personal experience just yet, write me (PM) in a week and I can.  😉

I have a donnfl adapter and his 25cal sumo on my P15 22 very quiet combination only down side is I have to unscrew the moderator a little ways to get the fill probe in but it's not that much of a problem for the quietness .

For my P15 I use a full shroud system from Air-Fective tuning which is amazingly quiet.

Bowhunter73, the same problem really got old with me. I made a 3/8" thick plastic spacer the the same diameter as the shroud, drilled it out internally to barrel's diameter, undid the set screw on the shroud, took it off, put the spacer in and put the shroud base back on.  I have a spring inside my shroud to keep the baffles in place. No more unscrewing the supressor. You could keep it simple and take the shroud internals out and just move the shroud out enough but then there is a gap, which I personally didn't like, but would work. Didn't mean to hi-jack this thread.

Keyman, unless JSAR made your barrel with a 1/2 x 20 thread you won't be able to direct thread it. They do drop-ins that use the factory thread (12×1.25) or will give you the 1/2×20 if you want. I am sure you know that having dealt with them, maybe others don't so I mention it. I know that a Sumo with a shroud is very quiet on mine and I am getting 52fpe w/JSB MII heavies. If I were not to use a shroud though, I would probably get a Ronin. I am very addicted to how quiet it is. I don't know what length you had them cut the barrel to, but the threads would have to start out past the air cylinder enough to be able to put on the Ronin in the first place and a little more still to charge your gun w/o having to remove it. I am getting tired of working around shrouds and am moving to direct threading more; fewer parts, fewer problems.

I just checked my gun and if you have your barrel cut to 22.75" you will not have any problems with screwing on any suppressor or having to unscrew it for charging. You get a lot more velocity too. I'm jealous, but I'm not out $300 either.

PumaCarl thanks for the info that sounds like the ticket for me I'll be looking into doing your mod.  Thanks Terry
