P12, or not to P12? That is the question.

MAN!

This money is getting HOT! It's about to burn a hole in my pocket. Yee - Ouch!

I keep going back to look at the SPA P12 bullpup pcp.

You guys that have/had one, are they worthy of the price tag?

I don't need it. I just want it. Something different for me since I have not owned or shot BP gun. I'm thinking.22 caliber. I just do backyard targets and plinking. I DO like accuracy though. I already have some very precise guns and I hope the P12 can hang in the accuracy department. It doesn't need to be surgically precise but accurate enough to know that a miss is totally me and not from the performance of the gun/pellet combo.

Thanks for any thoughts and experiences with this economy BP!

I’m for that motto too, Scott.

The thing for me is that those that don’t like the BP configuration, don’t. I have no handling experience with one and I figure IF I don’t care for it, I’m not out much and should be able to move it for a small loss maybe. If I go BIG like the Taipan (or others) and I don’t like it, I may have to move it for maybe the same amount of loss? Maybe not. Either way, the initial investment is waaay smaller AND, I don’t have that much money burning a hole in my pocket to buy the Taipan anyway.

Its a sort of a “testing the waters” in the BP arena to see if I will even like the configuration, give me something to tinker with, and hopefully have a decent shooter with little $$ invested.

Im guessing that you may have had some experience with the P12? If so, what did you think? Good value for the money or a total waste?

Thanks!

I had one of the early models from Mrodair. It was my first experience with bullpups and I’ve not purchased anything since. True, it doesn’t shoot as well as my Vulcan, Taipan or Cricket but bang for the buck, not bad.

You must have a reg for it though. TP is was to big to try and tune with a hammer spring.

I’ve got some videos on YouTube I made with mine. Look for Mrodair P12.

Thanks Dave!

I have ran across at least one of your P12 videos. I guess by even making this post it would appear that I am getting more serious about trying one out. I'll have to go back and do a little more online research on this this BP so I can get a better idea of what I may expect should one show up at my door. Ha ha!

The only advice I can give is if you buy a SPA product, you should be prepared to work on it and invest some money to make it right. You can get lucky but some of that depends on your standards. My $450 P15 quickly became a $1,200 P15. My standards were set by Taipans and Edguns. If you like to work on guns, have a lathe or know a machinist, these guns are a decent building platform.

I have one that all I've done to it is change hammer spring for one that pushes jsb 25.39's @ 44 fpe. I've made 50 fpe but shoots better backed off a bit.

There are no baffles so you'll have to either diy hair curlers wrapped with felt which tames the bark out of it, but I really recommend just getting and adapter and adding your LDC of choice.

It has a very loud ping especially since your ear is right there, so you're going to have to address that, but its really easy to work on, and a simple baby brush will get the job done, plenty of videos out there showing this.

Accuracy I would say you're not going to confuse it with a $1200 gun by no means, but it will easily out shoot every $300 entry level gun out currently, thus again imo no need to dump tons of cash into it, unless you want of course

How much would you be willing to pay for an already tricked out P12. I have been on the fence about selling it for a while. Huma reg, multishot breech, adjustable butt plate, 500mm stx liner floated in a carbon fiber tube, and stacked baffle moderator. It's a good bit lighter because of the barrel and is accurate, $2k gun accurate.

Awesome! Thanks guys. I’m still debating on getting one or not. I have even upped my want to a Veteran but, that’s a lot of money for me to “try” something. I’m a hobbyist/plinker so this gun isn’t really purpose driven (other than having fun) so at this moment, top of the line isn’t necessary BUT I do like accuracy. I’m not sure if I can live with ok? I too have had some nice rifles to compare them to so that could be an issue. I was wanting .22 but now only the .177 is available on eBay. I only found .25 available other places. Maybe .177 will work for the backyard? Just thinking in text form here.....

I had one for a while. It was first bullpup and it was a good gun after I fixed some issues with it. Bad barrel etc but once done it was really a good gun. So be prepared to do some tinkering and or fixing if you get one, You might get lucky and not have any issues too. I have since upgraded to a Cricket .25 and Veteran Long .22. The veteran has become overall favorite rifle I have ever owned. Its just plain awesome. Cricket is a close second.
