P-Rod huma regulator tuning worth it?

Hey Folks,

I've had my prod since this past fall and absolutely love it. Has a decent shot string and shooting 21 gr H&N Baracuda Match I'm getting decent power around 13-14 fpe.

Now the question remains, is it worth it to start modding/tuning to squeeze out a few more fpe's? I know the shot string will improve as well...but...

Looking to hear from folks who have been down this road.

thanks!

Adding a regulator usually gives you less energy but will give you a flatter shot string and more shots per fill. If you are wanting more fpe, I would leave it unregulated and chronograph the gun to find out where the gun makes highest power. I would look around to see if anyone sells a high power valve and open up the TP as large as you can.

Recently i added the Huma regulator and the Marmot hammer forged barrel to my PROD. Fill to 3000 stop after 3 magazines, ending pressure is 1700. With the AA 16gr. Avg 700 FPS & 17.4 FPE with ES of 2.5%. The reg is set at 125 bar, and I can get a few more shots before it falls off the reg but I just stop after 3 magazines. It's pretty easy to adjust to your liking via the reg setting, and fine tune with Hammer spring. Mines no longer has a hammer throw screw to adjust. There are several other mods to the ports, hammer, and valve and it's in a Rapid 70 stock..

Personally I would say it was worth the investment, it's a completely different enjoyable gun now. Also, modifying the gun, helped me to understand airguns better. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's louder than I like and when I add either moderator (which quiet it down to an acceptable level) I don't like the looks of it. Just looks off to me with the extra length. I may turn the reg down more in the future, to see if it helps with the noise.

By this time tomorrow my Mutant shorty should arrive from Charlie , and I'm thinking the PROD may start to collect a little dust,

+1^

Been there, done that. If possible, try to get a Mutant short. Unless you really want to tinker. And at the end, you will never come close anyway. Much better trigger and much quieter. I'm getting 60 shots @ 26 fpe with a spread of 11 fps from 250 bar to about 115 bar, from my shorty. The highly modified Prod you have in mind is fun, but ... and only about $200 less than a stock Mutant.

I love my Prod and will never be able to sell it to just break even on what I've spent on parts. I agree for a couple hundred dollars more I could of bought a much nicer and higher shot count airgun. I don't regret owning my Prod for a second. I've learned so much about how airguns work and was able to improve my shooting skills with the imperfections. During hunting season I use my FX Wildcat and everything I've learned just makes it a whole lot easier to be accurate.

I agree, what I've learned taking it apart several times, and machining parts for it etc was a good experience that I would not have tried on my Cricket. Even after receiving my Mutant short today (and enjoying it), I still ended up going through 6 mags with the Prod. Mines will probably stay here as well..
