Ozark Mountain Airgun Club's First Event

Big thanks to Sam and his family for the hospitality, Casey for the excellent meal, Britt for helping me find the bottom of that pony keg, Cho Lee and Kao for the laughs. Good time and hope all made it home safely.

Don't bring back the smallest squirrel as your only entry into the contest. You will never live it down. These little guys were bullet proof this weekend as many can attest to. Some cool mushrooms I found in the woods. Really nice property with tons of horse trails to explore down.

We found some big ones too while in the woods that day. But my kids phone camera wasnt the best. They had 6-7" stalks on em. Never seen em that big. Im not daring enough on wild mushrooms to eat em unless im 100% sure what they are.

I am a truck driver too. Been one for 15 years. Started otr, than intermodal, than oilfield, and now ltl.

On a different note, i plan to make a post this weekend about our next event once details are ironed out. Will be in December and a target shoot competition. Hopefully not freezing yet.

A big no on all of the above mushrooms. The orange ones are jack o lantern. It will get you. Chanterelles are done for and have been for awhile. Sure wish I could of stayed and made the hunt. Been doing real well around here on some. Here is what you all should be looking for now. Hen of the woods. My hen holding a hen :) .

We fried us some that afternoon. Vintage cast iron on a vintage stove.

Then a lasagna with some of the hen used as the meat component. No picture of that but yesterday it was pizza! Yes squirrel meat and more hen of the woods and homemade arrabiata sauce plus the cheese made the pie :)

Alright bringing this back up for this year and wanting to do another squirrel hunt as the season opens May 22. Gauging interest and looking to do a more central location for guys and gals all over the state to attend. I can post up possible locations here or start a new thread. Just figured people were already following this one and will get alerted that it has been revived.

Eagle Bluff is river bottom and wetland, not good squirrel hunting and has a lot of people running around. Davisdale CA east of Boonville might be a good location as well as Whetstone Creek CA at Williamsburg. One area that I want to check out this spring is Saline Valley CA near Tuscumbia, it is river hills and creek bottom. Note that squirrel season starts May 28.

Also, Saline Valley CA and Rudolf Bennett CA (north of Columbia) both have good camping areas.
