Out with the old, in with the new! Taipan/Vulcan/Zbroia

Dudes! Looking to get the latest and greatest .25 bullpup. LOVER OF POWER AND ACCURACY! Is it just me, or is the Taipan getting pushed outta the picture by the new "Zbroia"? Was at Joe Brancato's shop today to purchase a great white tank. While I was there....being me, had to shoulder everything there hahaha. Now I need advice for my next. 25 purchase. Veteran .25 long, Vulcan 2 ( runner up), or the "all new Zbroia's!"......I'll tell ya what...Im hearing good things bout um. What's everyone's thought on the 3???

i don't know about zbroia , believe the new kid is the sapsan. what i heard was average power for the caliber. i have had vulcan and taipan. in 25. vulcan 2 pup out of box at 45 FPE . and the taipan was 50 FPE out of the box. simple tightening of the Hammer spring gets you 60 FPE max. this is out of the box . the taipan was the vet long.

I want a Veteran Long in .22 - it seems to be like searching for Yeti, Bigfoot or a Unicorn though - no one seems to have one. :(

The Zbroia's apparently have a good reputation across the pond ( Europe ) but everyone's initial impression of the Sapsan is that it's overpriced for what you get with it. I'm kind of intrigued with it myself - Joe Brancato did a cursory review of one ( I'd like to see a more in depth review ala Steve Scialli @AEAC, Rick Rheem @Shooter1721 ) where we could see accuracy, shot count, etc . . . it's supposed to be caliber interchangeable, and per Joe's review of it - not overly expensive to do that either.

I’m not a big fan of bull pups being a lefty.
Though I have been told by a fellow who’s owned the best of the best that his Vulcan Gen 2 is the most accurate gun he’s ever shot. It’s also ambidextrous as he’s a lefty also.

I was surprised to hear that statement. I now own his Corcoran stocked FX Elite w/ 7 barrels. Why do I have 3 .177’s & 3 .22’s, 1 .25? Because all barrels aren’t created equally for all pellets & slugs. So, with a grain of salt we consider the platform. Is it stable enough that free floating the barrel is even possible? To what power level is it still stable? Are we judging a gun with the optimal pellets & setting in good atmospheric conditions? Lots of variables and I take that into account when I read “the best,” or disappointment in the performance.

Since you have the opportunity to fully inspect & I would think test the gun at Joe’s shop, why not? I would bring a borescope & do exactly that if I had the option.

I used to have a power tuned .25 Cricket and it was a great gun. But I bought a Huben K1 in .22 so I sold it. I still have my .22 Veteran long with CZ barrel and it's awesome. Wont be getting rid of it anytime soon. Between those two I have what I need. I only shoot pellets so not interested in shooting slugs. If I would ever buy another .25 it would be a Veteran long.

Thanks for all the good info! I was actually in Joe Brancato's shop yesterday picking up a great white tank. Had the chance to shoulder a bunch of gun while I was there (like a kid in a candy store lol). The Edgun matador is flippin awesome. Unfortunately its WAY above my price point. My next gun is gonna be a .25 for sure. I thought I was set on getting the .25 long Veteran, but Joe kinda talked me out of it because of the cocking lever placement( I was kinda on the fence about that anyway). I wish it had a biathlon lever on it and I would be sold. Never really thought about a Zbroia, but Joe says really good things about them and recommend I look into them and the Vulcan 2. He said if he gets another, it would be the Vulcan 2. Is there any talk on ways to swap the veteran to a diff style lever??

Hi,

FWIW, I have the Edgun R5M, Lelya, and Taipan Short (all 22s). While I find the Edguns to be very robust and easy to work on, the Taipan has a wonderful trigger and is very easy to shoot accurately. I was on the fence with the Taipan due to the cocking lever location. After several magazines down range I found the lever location to be just fine and easily manipulated. I find the Lelya and Taipan Short to be great for offhand shooting. Something about the support hand location. If you are a lefty, I'd lean more toward the Taipan as the magazine is in the center plane of the airgun. The Edgun (while it still works lefty) has the magazine shifted toward the RHS of the rifle.

BTW, just for fun I tossed a set of MBUS on the Taipan and Lelya. For plinking around the yard they are really great (and lightweight!).

Enjoy,

Nugria

Some thoughts.

The Sapsan is a new gun with not even one review. It has no safety and uses it's own barrels instead of using a LW or CZ barrel. Reliability is an unknown. For those reasons I would only consider it at a considerable discount to the established airguns.

The Vulcan2 has a known good reputation as being rock solid and accurate. It has a nicely placed cocking lever. It does not include double load protection like the newer Uragan model which you should have on your list because of that nice feature and because the Uragan has higher shot capacity with it's bottle and doesn't cost any more than the Vulcan2 does.

The Taipan has an amazing trigger. Best of the bunch. It has anti-double loading protection. It has reliable easy to load magazines that handle most pellets well. It uses CZ barrels that are famous for their accuracy. It is completely "backyard friendly" without adding an additional mod, even at it's crazy power levels. It is efficient and gets a surprising amount of shots per fill. It does have the rearward cocking lever which is more awkward. There is a company that makes a forward lever for it but then you are talking about dumping more money into it.

Good luck.

DanielL,

What is the company that makes the forward lever? I haven’t heard of this and you have piqued my curiosity - if you would be so kind as to prove a company name/link I would appreciate it...

I don't recall. I ran into when Googling around one day. They had designed a system that mounted forward and used the barrel to slide on. It looked like a great solution but I didn't have a Veteran at that time so unfortunately I didn't bookmark it.

None of those are reviews of the Sapsan. The first is a dealer talking about features not even shooting it. The second is just a hunting video with almost zero information. The third is a different gun.

From feedback of their previous airguns the machining and finishing refinement is not same level as the major established brands.

There have been fairly good reports on other models accuracy which is encouraging but the Sapsan is quite a bit different. For one it has a long thin unsupported barrel. Guns with similar designs are known to experience POI shifts when the barrel is bumped which isn't hard to do during transport or say when bumping the suppressor into a tree when swinging it around in the woods.

I'd at least wait for a deep dive extensive review before laying down that kind of cash.

Apologies... here's the review and as stated review to come shortly from shooter Rick Rehm...I have heard a very different story from shooters and tuners from Europe where Zbroia have gathered a strong following and have been in the market longer..The point of showing the FC model was to show the accuracy of the barrel, since its the same barrel being used on the Sapsan as stated in my post.

Respect your opinion but still think its an incredible gun, as for barrel support a lot of top guns don't have barrel support RAW / FX / DAYSTATE ...It also in comes in a fully shrouded version designated "s"
