Out with the 30 and in with the HW50S

I am now the proud owner of a brand new HW50S in 22 cal. Haven’t put a scope on it yet or shot it. Hardair Magazine did a review on one so I’m looking forward to shooting it. To bloody hot atm and after driving for the last 7 hours to get the rifle I’m just going to sit in the air conditioning, have a beer or two and watch the cricket.

Given the issues you reported with your 30S I can understand why you opted for the 50. They are a nice rifle and will no doubt give you many years of faithful service.

A new shipment of HWs has just reached NZ however as Christmas is almost with us my guess is that we will be lucky if they reach the retailers until the New Year.

Mate, love the cricket too but our team’s performance in the first test is really depressing 😢

Wishing all you and all our Aussie bros a very safe and happy Christmas.

Did my chores this morning and watered the gardens. We have to water twice a week now as this drought is taking its toll. The dam is nearly empty but we can switch over to the bore when it empties.

Now for the fun stuff. The rifle is nice and light, and I really don’t know why people are complaining about the cocking effort. It feels a little bit harder then the 30 but I could shoot it all day. Trigger is the same as the Hw30 and my Hw77,sweet. The HAM report stated that the rifle likes the green pellets so the first and only pellets were the H&N FTT 9.56 gr Greens.

After about 10 to 15 shots it settled down. First two shots at 10 metres then zeroed at 25 metres. If you look at the photo the top left 3 groups were from my Hw30 when it broke. The second group from the top left is when I re zeroed the scope, 7 shots. This rifle always had a poi shift at the beginning of each shoot.

The bottom right hand side from bottom to top are 10 shot groups. The first group is the bottom right then going up.The middle top is the last 10 shot group. Outside to outside of the targets is 14 mils. Not too shabby.

Noise is about the same as the 30 when I started shooting it, maybe a bit more twangyness. It’s had 42 pellets through it now and I’m very happy with its progress. Can’t wait to see how it settles down after a few thousand pellets.

Christian when I walked into the gun shop it was hanging on the wall........with my name on it😊

Richardo don’t be too hard on the guys, you were down your leading wicket taker before the game started and the injury to your other paceman didn’t help further. You still have the worlds second best cricket team..............for the moment😂

Mr. Windmill,

I respect your driving for the gun. Maybe it was too good a deal to pass up. I just want to point out something to you. If you’re not aware I’m POSITIVE you or any that read will appreciate it.

Krale Sports is a long time family owned gun business in Germany I believe. Someplace that they obviously get any HW at GREAT prices and pass them on to anyone they can legally ship to. Shipping is not crazy. In fact it’s often cheaper than Pennsylvania to California and I don’t know how or why. Example: I want a HW90 in .177 for new JSB 16.20’s because a long 16.20 grain .177 doing probably 25-32.40 ftlbs would be one heck of a penetrating laser.
https://www.krale.shop/en/weihrauch-hw90-new.html Now total shipped is $493.95 .177 or .22 and they carry HW97’s in .177-.25, unbelievable deals on Walthers also.

The HW90 was $625.90-$699, coming down to compete with Krale now $561.00 + shipping. Sorry USA airgun sellers but y’all been making a killing on high dealer mark ups for a long long time. In the same sense of fair is fair, I fully understand buying wholesale, shipping, stocking, storage, website, employee costs, etc. So if you look at airguns like RAW or Air Force Condor, Texan, whatever, Krale is NOT the place to get those.

I personally am looking for a solid UK classified forum or better yet a legitimate UK shop that will ship airguns to USA where legal as allowed. Plenty of used sub 12ftlb British Bombshells I would buy in a heartbeat if I knew a shop had thoroughly inspected fully and tested accuracy. The Brits have way more nicer older Rapids, BSA’s, Daystates, any & every English made rifle is cheaper over there and usually has been cherished.
I hope my link helps someone & enjoy your new HW50!

https://www.krale.shop/en/weihrauch-hw97-k.html Where else in the world can you find a brand new HW97 .25 for $431.00 + $27-$47 shipping to US? Yes it’s only 14.7ftlbs and that’s weak to most American air gunners; but maybe I’d absolutely love it as is for 20 yard English Sparrow pesting. A bit like taking out a hang glider or ultra lite with a Stinger missile but to each their own.

JamesD thank you for your reply. I’m very aware of Kral and the ease that you and your country men and women can have a cheaper top quality airrifle shipped to them. Unfortunately our laws prohibit me shipping a rifle into the country. It has to be sold through a licence holding gun shop or dealer. I can go though our customs but that was is an extremely long and legislative road.

Im really enjoying this Hw50s atm. It’s very hot here and today it’s forecasted to reach 43 deg Celsius. But late yesterday afternoon I had a cooled window which to shoot. Empty pellet cans at 35 metres on our wood pile were hit monotonously with a quarter mil dot hold over. Also penetrating both sides with 9.56 gr alloy pellets. To me it shoots, handles and feels the same as the Hw30 but a little more noises, twangy.

Thankyou again.

Gary

Wayne I tried H&N FTT 14.66 gr this morning. The pellets grouped a half a mil dot down from the 9.56 Greens so they performed pretty well. Below is a test that Straightshooters did on the Hw50S and it looks like the 12.65 Greens performed the best especially achieving 480 fps and 7 ft lbs at 50 yards. I shoot those pellets with my Hw77 so I’ll give them a go tomorrow when it’s cooler. The lead Ftt’s 14.66 gr pellets only achieved 357 fps and 4 ft lbs at 50 yards.

I’m really liking this rifle. So far I have put through about 200 alloy pellets and a few lead ones. I was shooting empty pellet tins yesterday arvo at 38 metres. The tins were nailed to a tree then I put on the lids. The 9.56 gr Greens were very accurate, group sizes were around the size of my thumbnail and that was standing resting my arm against the shed with the rifle resting on my hand. All shots unless impeded by a previous pellet lodged into the bark of the tree. Free standing tins at the same distance were holed both sides.

This morning I adjusted the trigger a bit lighter. This improved things considerably and stopped me from pulling the trigger on occasions resulting in high shots. I will post some groups at a later date as the heat here is stifling and it is very windy.

Those numbers really limit the M50 to a pest control rifle out to 30 yards. I have the Greens rated at 12.65 gr but 80+ % of them weigh in the 13.3 gr range.

I thought 7 ft lbs at 480 fps @ 50 yards was pretty good. Air gunners on this forum have stated that they have taken rabbits out to 30 yards with the 6-7 ft lb Hw30. I can’t verify if those statements were true but my testing so far with this rifle I’m comfortable that I can humainly take a bunny up to 40 metres. I usually don’t shoot pests etc past 40 metres, you really never can be sure of a humane kill.

Its definitely not a magnum springer but I have been encouraged so far by its performance. Will keep updating.
