The most pellets I have ordered at one time was 16 500-pellet tins. The heavy box that the carrier delivered appeared to have been dropped multiple times, causing damage to several of the tins.
I ordered 16 tins because I thought it improved my chances of getting all pellets from the same die. It also earned me free shipping.
For those of you who order your pellets in bulk, could you provide some suggestions on how to do that?
How many tins do you order at a time?
Are you guaranteed all are from the same die?
How are they shipped, and do you receive any damaged tins?
Thanks.

And what if you get them all from a bad die?

I usually load up on a single run of pellets, I have always got the same lot. PA could not be any more obliging in my book. I called on an order of H&N pellets thinking I did not receive the 5.53 and .54 pellets expecting the numbers on front of can. They offered to take them back no questions asked thinking their mistake not mine. The pellets are always wrapped in foam-taped. I rec’d damaged boxes, never a dented tin although some of the pellets had some damage. For soft lead handled by many traveling half way across the country can’t complain.

Don’t be rude. Those of us who shoot competitively order like that. My last batch was for 32 tins. Once sorted it ends up being a lot less.

JSB’s, 6 rolls per case, 30 tins. It’s been a crap shoot on lot numbers. In a sealed factory case most of the time there are 3 lot numbers. AOA double boxes them for me, but you can see where UPS just throws and drops the box. When I order just a couple of rolls they come wrapped in bubble wrap and double boxed. Outer box shows a lot less damage from the shipper throwing it about, and I feel they have less shipping impact damage. My plan is to pick up a years supply when I attend EBR. That way I can pick them up right off the pallet and that should be the least shipping impact damage. Kind of tough to throw a pallet of pellets around.

They put the pellet box (3″ x 3″ x 4″) in a much larger box with no padding whatsoever. So the box of pellets banged around inside and eventually opened, spilling half the pellets out. It sounded like a big maraca. Incredible stupidity on their part but maybe on my part too, thinking I could trust a big online seller to package correctly. The only good news is that they issued me a return label and refund immediately.

Thanks. This is more what I had in mind when I started this thread.I think your plan for personally picking up pellets is ideal, but how will you know which lot number you are selecting from AoA’s pallet? I used to get JSB tins from PA with lot number information on the bottom, but now the tins have a generic white label with no lot number info. Do JSB tins from AoA have lot number info?
You other point about fewer tins in a box, maybe 4 or 8, to reduce shipping impact damage, will probably be my best option right now. I suspect the UPS package handlers don’t expect a box with 16 or 32 tins to be so heavy for its size, and it slips out of their grasp. PA customer support told me that I could request extra padding when placing an order with them.

Do JSB tins from AoA have lot number info?
Yes IME they do. Every tin I have ever gotten from AoA has a lot number on the bottom. If you plan on picking up a lot of tins when you travel here, I would strongly suggest you get with AoA and make sure they have them in stock and held for you, and check again and again… they have assured me time and time again that they would do XYZ or have ABC for me and have yet to every meet their promises. So far for me its only been an inconvenience, but if I was say attending EBR and planning on picking up (100) tins while I was here and they only had (20), I’d be pretty pissed.
If I don’t pick them up at AoA I order from Airgun Depot. They come in what I would almost call over packaging, lol. They use a semi-rigid foam with a hole cut in the center, its the size of a large tin (e.g. 30cal from JSB). The square outer shape fits tightly in the box. The thickness is the a little thicker than the tin. So lets say you order (5) JSB 30cal tins, there is a solid foam on the bottom of the box, then (5) with (1) tin each, each layer with a piece of cardboard between the foam layers, then enough to fill the box with solid foam layers. It’s like unpacking a layer cake. They have a ring that goes around the smaller tins to hold them tightly in the square. I’ve never ordered more than (10) tins at a time from them and that time the shipment was in (2) boxes, i.e. they have a really good system to shipping pellets.

February 11, 2017 at 9:28 am LinkPA All the way… Order 16 tins at 10% off and free shpping and it comes to just a tad over 10 bucks a tin. having ordered 10s upon tens of thousands of pellets through Pyramid Air I have yet to see a single tin of damaged pellets!
For a Large Supplier, they are incredibly effecient, professional and easy to deal with.

My last pellet order was about 1 year ago and I ordered 3 cases (12 boxes) and it was received like this……..
I currently resize my cPLs for a 4.52ish mm head plus sorting then into three weight groups. As received I noted that the CPLs received from Pyramyd have VERY few damaged skirts (less than half dozen out of 1250).I’ve also order “tinned pellets’ from PA and this is the packaging they get……

I order my pellets from PA also, but when I have ordered four tins, I did not get the ‘stack’ with a piece of card board in between each tin. I will request my next order to be packed that way.
