Ordered the Fx Impact x .177 did I get in over my head?

Hi guys

new member here from Europe.

since the impact came out I have been drooling over it, but the big price tag and all the problems you read about keept me from buying it. Well after a few years , I thought all the issues was solved so I finally ordered it.

but now after reading in here it seems that a lot issues still exist?

i have never fixed air leaks on a pcp or pulled one apart, so I’m getting more and more nervous getting this gun if problems should appear. I have looked at all the Rowe master class videos and some of it does look a little scary, but still doable with some patience and maybe guidance from all impact guys in here

just last night I read that the x barrel is made for slugs?

how do I know witch liner is inside the Impact?

i have read the manual and it says fill pressure is 250bar, but it doesn’t say how low I can go before a refill ?

i have a 1000 questions but this will have to do for now

what do you think ,did I get in over my head on this one?

x is not for slugs, but you can get a slug x barrel. They don't make it in .177 tho.

Depending on where you bought the gun it's either a smooth twist (no liner) or smooth twist x (liner) barrel.

refill when fill pressure gets close to regulator pressure

if you're handy then repairs aren't too hard. just be careful and double and triple check everything you do before doing it.

If its an X it comes with the "A" liner for pellets, that's what they all come with and all other liners are extra. I think the first poster is correct that there is no slug liner for .177 but I think I read somewhere that they are working on one so maybe in the future. The manual says "Never fire the rifle below 100 bar tank pressure"

You can get a manual here: FX Impact manual

Probably the best thing you can do with a new Impact is to do nothing to it until you check out the factory settings. FX says that they put a lot of time and experience at getting the factory settings optimal soooo I guess I would try the factory settings out first and try to get some pellet that will perform well with that setting. Of course, I am the independent type and proceeded to optimize the gun the way I thought it should be and it took a fair amount of time to get it back to where it was to begin with (LOL) … but if you are patient, if you check and double check everything, if you educate yourself as much as possible concerning the gun, you will probably do well. Do yourself a favor though, if you get so frustrated and flustered with the tuning you are attempting, set the gun aside for a few days and come back to it when you can be a little more objective. There are plenty of folks on here who will be glad to help you with whatever you may be having trouble with. Stay Chilly!

I have the Impact X in .177 Got mine a few months ago and it has been nothing but a blast to shoot. Poster that said leave it alone gave you the best advice. I haven't changed a thing on mine and it shoots as accurately as I can. If you got the full power version (you didn't say where your from) it will probably like the JSB 10.34 pellets. Try to avoid the biggest mistake most Impact owners make and the reason you see all the complaining about the gun...don't make changes till you're familiar enough with the gun to understand what those change will do. I would bet that more Impacts have been detuned by new owners than tuned.

Enjoy, you've bought a great gun

Hi guys

and thank you for taking your time to answer and helping me out here, it’s much appreciated .

i can’t go for 25 or 30 cal because of our laws here, where i live.

and my shooting will only be garden plinking and a little paper punching and some rats will have to die to;)

i have read the manual and everything I can find on impact tuning and I watched both Matt’s and Ted’s videos.

wenn it gets here I’ll try different settings on the power wheel to match it to the pellets and go from there, if that doesn’t work then I’ll be back;)

i really need a video that goes in depth with both basic tuning and advanced tuning, I have only found one that covers some basic tuning.

i found the master class videos and AOA videos, am I missing some?

You're starting out right. Going for a high end model as your first gun is cheaper than working your way up over a few rifles.

If it turns out you don't like it, it will sell faster than a lower end gun.

+1 I did it the hard way and ended up with 6 guns and I wasn't too thrilled about any of them. I'd rather have one "high end" gun than 6 "meh" guns.

And working on these pcp's is intimidating at first but once you get that gun apart for the first time it will get easier. It really isn't that difficult as long as you take your time (and plenty of pictures). Though I've never had an Impact so I'm sure it will be more complicated than most but not impossible to fix with all the info out there now. Congrats on a sweet gun, enjoy it!

You must have posted right before me,cause I didn’t see it.

nice gun!

im from Denmark and it’s the full power version thank god.

I’ll keep my fat fingers from it trust me, I’m in no hurry to tinker with;) I already have the JSB from the lightest to the heaviest pellet in .177 so I’m ready for it wenn it arrives:)

you fill the gun to 250 bars right, and at what bar do you refill the gun again?

thanks

i do have another pcp Weirauch hw 100 but I have only had it for about three months and that just started leaking a few days ago I’m waiting for o-rings to arrive for it. But if the impact behaves like I hope, then I’ll keep the impact and sell the Weirauch :)

"you fill the gun to 250 bars right, and at what bar do you refill the gun again?"

The regulator provides for consistency in air pressure from shot to shot. Nobody told me this, but I found it intuitive to not allow the cylinder pressure drop below the pressure set on the regulator.

That is my reasoning.

I've also read where some users never feel comfortable filling the cylinder to the recommended maximum pressure level. I am not a member of that particular club, however.

I actually fill my gun to around 220 bar and refill @ around 120 bar. As I also just use my gun for shooting in my backyard (your garden ) I don't feel the need to " top it off" everytime I fill it. I still get 80 + shots and if I shoot more than that in one session, then my bottle is only 5 feet away. No big deal.

To me 250bar sounds really high because I’m just to fill my hw 100 to 200bars only, and in my mind wenn filling to the higher pressure (250bar) then there will be a bigger chance of o-rings failure. But if everyone fills to 250 all the time, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

if I remember right from videos, then the reg pressure is set to around 110 bar in cal.117. So I’ll keep it over the reg pressure around the 110bar mark and I should be good:)

I did the same thing, first I got a Gamo breakbarrel, then I find that I like the sport of shooting and then went for Impact, I finished the game by cheat :) If I got other gun first I would miss all that possibility to tinker and tune and I like to tinker, detune and tune, like to play. Just leave it as it is in the beginning and learn as time and led goes by.
