Optics for Impact

three years ago i bought my first PCP. FX wildcar MK 1. i loved it. This weekend i just picked up a used FX impact MKII.

But i need a new optic for it. I thought the MTC Viper pro was a good scope bc of the good things Ted use to say about it.

but 3 years later, it doesn't seem like many people like it all that much. I need to cancel my order with optics planet. I ordered it on friday!

So with that said, what is the top optic i should look at. I see plenty of hawkes, trijicon, elements. i never hear anything about aztec any more.

My budget is $400-900. i like higher power scopes. my current scope for my wildcat is 8-34 Athlon

i'm reading the forum to look for for other clues on what is liked the most

The MTC VIPER PRO doesn't track well after a while as a clicker as it had originally meant to be used for with the novelty ballistic 3 to 1 ratio ballistic turret.and not clear past 20x. You may find them used for around $200 with no Warranty to the second owner since typical UK based scope companies like Falcon MTC Optisan Hawke and so on don't seem to have transferable Warranties to the second owner something to consider.

IThe 5-30x50. MTC VIPER PRO was recently on sale at DVOR for around $300 and regular price around $659.

The Aztec Emerald is the clearest scope along with chromatic aberration at the same time throughout a broad range of power levels not only at maximum power typical of junk scopes. You might actually like the aura of different colors like a halo of colorful bubbles when looking through the Aztec. It might be tolerable for most.

Affordable cheap and super clear scope with 6 times zoom ratio if clarity and brightness and eye friendliness and no BS transferableno questions asked no receipt needed Lifetime Warranty are most important to you in a 4.5-27x50 the Alpha6 is a winner among a lot of users for only $180 to $229 sale price regular $393. I like it better than my $699 SWFA SS and $900 - $1000 Sightrons and most scopes under $1200 regardless of price due to the perfect reticle that has a daytime bright illumination. Try it and if you dont like it I assure you it will sell super fast on the AGN CLASSIFIEDS if you list it and this Alpha6 scope alone is THE quickest selling scope on AGN Classifieds I have personally ever witnessed. Clarity is just unbelievable when you look through one. People use this scope on their FX Impacts and Daystate Redwolfs to Benjamin Mauarders and everything in between. I am a scope snob and REALLY like my March and Nightforce and Zeiss and Kahles and Tract and Leupold scopes to be honest which I would recommend too only if you have the cash to blow. I like high end Vortex too but can't recommend the brand in good conscience.

Leupold and Zeiss and Tract and the Aims Sports Alpha6 are worth paying full price for IMHO.

A lot of scopes are WAY too overpriced for what you get. Shop wisely only buy from 100% return friendly dealers buy 10 or 20 scopes at a time and return 90% - 95% plan to keep only the ones your eyes prefer the most comparing all 20 side by side same time it's not like you actually spending 20 or 30 grand since you plan to return most anyway. Buy at least 10 at a time damn sure from return friendly dealers pay attention to return date window.

Know your scopes and the price trends and the last sale prices for referemce you will know how low they can be bought for so please be a smart buyer or you can waste money its your choice.

Element Helix last DVOR sale price was $300. Glass isn't its strongest point. Clicks seem fine unsure how long clicks will track properly with repeated clicking though overall the brand is below average for the MAP price IMHO. Probably worth half their asking price is fine in line with what you get. Alpha6 is clearer than the $799 Titan side to side at comparable max power and gives the $1499 Nexus a good run for its money.

Remember plan to return most and keep just what your own eyes like. Try not to pay retail either unless you got cash to throw away shop wisely. Pay retail for the certain scopes mentioned above are fine.

If buying popular brands of Chinese made scopes know there's a huge markup and even if they sell them for half off retail they ate still earning a profit.

OOPS-! ADD ATHLON CRONUS-!!! To the recommended list of you find them for $1000 or less on sale. Only downside 25 yard focus like the Tract Torics.

Pretty damn clear though-! They are pretty close to tier1 scopes costing 2 to 4 times as much.

I am still unsure if the Athlon CRONUS is worth paying full price for but for $1000 I can recommend 100%.

The other cheaper Chinese Athlon scopes didnt get along too well with MY EYES. I do like the Clicks on my Midas TAC though recommended when you find them on sale for $380. If you shop wisely you come across Athlons for half price among many other popular brands you never know can be sold at half price. The Gen1 Argos is kind of junk IMHO. So are all sub $1000 Vortex

2 friends just returned their $1000 and $900 Vortex and kept their Alpha6 scopes that just might tell you something right there and another after trying his first Alpha6 sold all his Element Titans and Helix bought several more Alpha6 scopes there you go. More-? Another recently sold his Athlon Ares 4.5-27x50 after buying his first Alpha6 then just bought another A6.

I am not paid to say what I say nor receive free scopes or free guns or anything half price to push on this forum and receive no financial benefit. I push stuff I buy with my own money no discounts other than what I push at hot deal prices.

I don't normally do after the fact super deal if all sold out that's why I didn't push the half price Athlons when I bought the Midas TAC for $380 since it was the last (decent) Athlon in stock except the junk $180 Gen1 Argos that I don't recommend anyway. It's not clear past 18x and it's a 6-24x50 FFP scope the Alpha6 kicks its butt in clarity.

Most important pay attention to NO BS TRANSFERABLE LIFETIME WARRANTY unless you buy them 4 really dirt cheap then just toss into the trash after breaks after 3 or 5 year warranty or non transferable warranty just dump in the rubbish can cheap enough to just buy another new one.

Be mindful of buying used scopes that don't have warranty for the next owner too. Ask seller if they properly lap their rings and if been ever mounted on spring gun or ever "shimmed" stay away from buying them.

Nothing for that price actually.

Reliable Clicking scopes with comparable clarity-

$699 SWFA SS 3-15x42 naw PASS it's not worth the price. Used ones sell for $300.

BARRA H50 MAKE OFFER $200 BEWARE (NO WARRANTY-!) It's almost like a $1000-$1200 Vortex Razor in glass. He may counter $230 depends on his mood.

$250-$300 Bushnell TAC 5-15x50 AO SFP Mildot. Old school front focus comparable to the $699 SWFA SS 3-15c42 in glass.

Zeiss 4-16x50 nothing's clearer 4 under $2000. Tracks equal to if not better than Japanese scopes.

Your budget is the limiting factor. Other than that the glass on other possible clicking scopes don't agree with my eyes enough to recommend namely ATHLON great clicks but my eyes just don't like the glass and some reticle too thin to see.

Search ATHLON Cronus buy if you find them for $1000. There's one on the AGW Classifieds for $1200. I been tempted to buy it myself so do me a favor and buy it if you not happy I'll buy it from you try offer $1000.

The Zeiss and Athlon Cronus are significantly clearer than the Alpha6.

The Barra is a LITTLE clearer however no Warranty.

The other Japan Bushnell TAC and SWFA SS are comparable in glass to the Alpha6. Some are probably going to tell you their Alpha6 is clearer than their SWFA SS 3-15x42. The A6 beats the fixed 12x smokes the 16x and literally spanks the 20x.

I generally go by the reticle. The reticles that I prefer after it’s zeroed does the rest of the projectile drop work without tuning knobs . Then I go with the glass generally meaning money for quality, easier on my eyes. I shoot in my back yard daily weather permitting and spend more time looking through and shooting my airguns than I do on a computer. Hope that helps

I would take a serious look at Meopta's Optika6 (30mm tube) and Optika5 (1" tube) Czech scopes with Z-Plus reticle.

I personally prefer 1" tubes with 42mm to 44mm or even smaller heads--not a big fan of 50mm.

Have read very good reviews about it, and they are even priced right.

I am waiting for the Optika5 2-10x42 Rimfire Z-Plus or the Optika5 3-15x44 Z-Plus, both 1" tubes, to get back in stock.

Parallax on these scopes is from 10 yards to infinity.

Oh, the 4-20x50 Z-Plus is available in a lot of stores:

Meopta glass looks kinda like Leupold to my eyes.

Shop smart you may find HALF PRICE dealers and/or see HIGH END OPTICS SALE heads up I posted. Everything on sale at least 12% off.

Element Helix didn't do it 4 my eyes compared to the glass on the cheaper nicer $180 - $229 Alpha6 4.5-27x50 so I RETURNED mine from DVOR I paid $300 for of couple months ago it wasn't clear enough 4 me at max power that's all even the Titan was a disappointment based on MY EYES compared to the A6.

Be on the lookout the Element brand might go cheap soon.

If you are a target shooter - The fixed power Leupolds, 35x, 40x or 45x. Or the Sightron 10-50. One friend really likes his higher end Falcon 10-50.

I don't think you can beat the Cronus BTR for an all arounder for $1000-ish. The New G2 Cronus which is over your budget is IMO """THE MOST AWESOME SCOPE OUT THERE""" for the money, they can be had for $1400-ish. I like mine just as much as my $4000 S&B and March!!! IT'S THAT GOOD! The differences are almost indiscernible, seriously, and that's being nitpicky!!! 2021 marked the time when my quest in trying to find the near perfect scope ended (for the money - meaning satisfaction per $$$$) and the Cronus G2 is just that! 10Y focus is it's only downside.

Last year the Ares BTR G2 was almost there but the glass was not working for my eyes for some reason so I sold all except for one??? I had to step up in price point to the Cronus G2 to be satisfied. I couldn't be happier about that decision.
